can you stay calm when someone is humiliating you and bullying you?

i had that experience yesterday at a heath center, where i previously had a good experience. i changed my health insurance but it was 15 days ago and i didn't have any problems elsewhere but when i had to schedule an appointment for a teeth scan, the health center nurse said i don't have an insurance, which it wasn't true and she didn't want to see the proof of that on my phone and she was rude and had a very negative attitude. i tried to stay calm, also said i'm not feeling good and said this is the proof. she said no again and said to get her a paper and that i should go to a health insurance building. i didn't feel good about this but if i insisted on something twice and there were other people there, waiting as well, i had to accept that, i felt and i really went but health insurance building was not that close. so, i went there, explained everything and they said that a doctor had to put some code (dear good, why a patient needs to know that) and i even said that to this clerk lady but she said it's not their business. i called my dentist and she said she typed in the code and if i can, i should pay the scan. i said no, thanked her and thought what to do next. okay, back to the nurse and to this health center but i decided to go to the principal's office first, just to make sure and i asked them to call this nurse but they said she is busy but that they accept i have insurance and that i should tell the nurse all this info. i mean, not helpful at all but, i needed a teeth scan so, of course, the same nurse and same attitude and same words that she won't pay anything for me. i replied i'm not asking anything but i felt upset and said that i walked a lot, that her boss is saying to fix this and it's always problem with them but not with the patients. this rude and primitive nurse was ready to fight and i only said to keep her tone down. unbelievable. and the same attitude from a nurse number 2 while i felt violated, in a way also, helpless. and again, they didn't want to accept my proof on the phone, i had to email them and when i emailed them, they said they couldn't open it. i sent them without a file, a regular email and imagine this, finally, they typed that code that was missing and yes, no apology, no nothing. i just looked at this nurse and walked away. i did the scan in a room behind and emailed my experience to ministry of health and health center people in charge. i mean, i have no words. she could have believed me from the start, typed in the code and she could have saved my time and hers. why bullying me, bringing me down, raising her voice, verbally attacking me. i said a couple of times i'm not well and that i have health issues and when i said that a couple of times, maybe then they believed me or they saw i won't give up from my rights. i hope someone will read my email of complain and do something that these things don't happen to me or to other people. job in a healthcare can be stressful but many treat patients like they are nothing here and that should change. i'm still recovering from this. or i should get used to this. and while i was trying to solve this, at the same time, they were scheduling another patient and were super nice towards her. i felt isolated while watching that, like in a movie or in a play. i tend to look younger, i have a standard regional voice but i'm a person too and you don't treat a person like this.

My sister and I could never stay calm in such a situation especially when we know we are right.

What a frustrating experience, especially when you were already feeling unwell. A simple administrative issue should not have turned into such an ordeal. Even if there was a problem with the insurance system, the staff could have explained it politely and helped you resolve it. I'm glad you lodged a complaint, and I hope it leads to some improvement in how patients are treated.

do you sometimes feel the people are harsher to you than to other people? cause, i feel like that since i came to this city at the age of 18; i was brought up in a smaller region and not everything was ideal but in a smaller place, people were not so aggressive and mean and i sometimes want to go back but i can't cause, working opportunities are less but life is less stressful and people are definitely more polite, not all but i think you wouldn't experience things like this. you are right, it was something so simple and yes, if i was treated nicer, everything would be different. i'm a bit of a sensitive person and i try to shut down thoughts like, am i a magnet for bad people and things cause, seeing how an older lady was treated and i was treated like an ant or less, i don't want to experience that again and i'm 39 now. it's too much. thank you, i appreciate it. have you experienced similar things and did you stay calm?

@valherma00 I can understand how you feel. My dad is disabled, and I remember taking him out one day. I was helping him get out of the car, which takes quite some time because of his condition. A man who was waiting for our parking space became extremely impatient. The disabled parking was taken up so I was using a normal parking. He started honking, and then got out of his car and began shouting at us. I shouted at him and told him he should be ashamed of himself. My poor dad was frightened, and that upset me even more. I couldn't stop thinking about the incident for days. So no, I don't always stay calm, especially when someone mistreats a vulnerable person. Some people really have no compassion at all.

@Nawsheen that's awful. if someone had a right to shout, it was you. i generally hate honking and when i drove, some men honked at me and i felt really nervous. i'm sorry this happened to your father and you; there are some aggressive and cold people out there, who are maybe miserable with their lives but that doesn't give them a right to act like this.

Of course not. I hate bullying and humiliation. I am sorry for what you have been through. It sounds that, there are lots of unfriendly people working in healthcare in your country.

@valherma00 Maybe they will get their karma. Don’t think a lot about negative things that could happen to you. It will affect your health.

i mean, my parents used to say that this treatment is normal for our helthcare workers but when it happens to you, it shouldn't be normal and okay. yes, i feel the same. thank you. i still didn't get an answer to my complain; i reported them but, what can i do more. the law or karma will punish them , i hope and yes, i shouldn't always live i na fear of bad things happening me, cause of some bad people but, when i'm down, i feel i'm always a target for bad people.
