Zen story: Life pricks us awake often, and we should always try to be aware of these prickings

The old Zen master pricked his finger on a rose bush, in the Zen monastery garden, and exclaimed, out loud to his students, watching him prune the roses.
"Why does life sometimes hurt you like this?"
One student with him, said in reply,
"It's usually when you hurt life, and that then is your karma coming back to you."
The old Zen master smiled widely, and responded back:
"The gratitude given to life should be the same as the love given to God, as thankfulness, is a sort of love too."
"Karma has no effect on love, loving, but love dissolves all karma instantly so, too."
The student bowed low.
He realised that the master lived from this great love, for life, and for his students too, and of course, also for God.
As a result of this, all happenings in his life, and in any life, were lessons for those with eyes to see, including of course too, for the master himself, as well.

Karma can never trump love.

Thanks. I like writing these stories with meaning to them. Yes, we too can change adversity into something more meaningful for us too.

I like the idea that even painful experiences can teach us something. Sometimes we get so caught up in asking why things happen that we miss what they can teach us about ourselves and how we treat others.

Yes, I have heard it said that we can learn something valuable from every experience, be it painful, or not.
We should never let go of a learning experience because we are feeling emotional, hurt, or thinking negative thoughts about it then, but look for the lesson in the hurt, or in the event, too.

That's well said, Shiva.
Yes, karma resolves itself when love fills its sails with itself, and so karma can then no longer direct our path, and we stay on track, learning as we go along from love, and life's continuing lesson pool too, without our drowning in the circumstances, weighed down by karma, and thoughts that are non-loving.

@Shiva49 To be miserly with love, is treating life as an oxymoron, destroying the very energy in us that we should be living from. We need to become alivened with love, to live life fully from love.
Otherwise, life becomes a karmic certainty for us then, instead. Karma controls us, and our living.

@innertalks Thanks Steve.
Love is the panacea for all ills that dog our society.
However, we are miserly with it though it is contagious to enliven and enrich our lives.
Yes, we are reaping what we are sowing - fair dinkum - karma in action!
