New York Is More Than NYC!

Hey! Just a quick heads up before winter media panic gets rolling:
Whenever you hear or see the national news warning about a major snowstorm hitting "New York" or "the Northeast corridor," they almost always mean New York City down on the coast.
I live in Central New York, over 250 miles inland and about a 4.5-hour drive away from NYC. Our weather up here is completely different. If a big storm hits the city, we usually don't get a single flake from that storm, so no need to panic or worry about me when you see New York on the news!
However, if you hear "Rochester," "Syracuse," "Upstate," or "lake-effect," that's when we might be getting it (depending on which side of the mountain, hill, lake, or Thruway [I-90] it hits).

I didn't know what area you lived in. That helps

In the decade that I have belonged to this site, I have been in VA, FL (taking care of Mom during the COVID lockdowns), and here. In February, I will have been here for six years.

@Chellezhere I definitely remember you in Florida and then moving to New York. Just not what part there

@wolfgirl569 about 2½ hours south of Ontario, and about a mile from one of the Finger Lakes.

I think most people know there is more to New York state than NYC, but then again, I could be wrong. New York state is pretty snowy in general though

@Chellezhere I grew up in Erie. I think it has been ranked as the snowiest US city .maybe not every year, but truthfully, Buffalo seems to get a lot more snow, or parts of the West. Aspen seems like it might win

Yes, it can be, especially where I live. This area gets the Golden Snow Globe a lot.
A fun national snow contest for the snowiest city in the United States with a population of 100,000 or more! Check to see if Your city winter snowfall totals are listed. Like the Site, Feel Free to Buy Us a Stiff One to Keep Warm ;) OK, really it helps us

Down here, many outsiders only think of New York City when someone says, "New York." Oddly enough, though, they don't automatically think of Oklahoma City or Kansas City when someone mentions Oklahoma or Kansas.

Have you ever seen it rain on one side of a street, but not the other?

I hope you get your chance. The UK is one for me because, as I'm sure you can see by my pic, it might be one of my ancestral homelands.
