What do you know, it’s happening again! We have another song that has a city in its title, and the city is NOT Hollywood! What do you know about that here is today’s song.
Tulsa Time - Eric Clapton
This might sound sacrilegious to you rockers, but Eric Clapton could have had a pretty good cooler in country music. In fact, here’s 1977 single “Lay Down Sally“ was a top 30 country hit. Clapton is a big fan of the late Oklahoma songwriter JJ Cale. And, of course, he covered this song.
This song was written by Danny Flowers, who at the time was the guitarist for Don Williams. Flowers wrote the song when the band got snowed in at a hotel in Tulsa. A few months later, Williams was opening for Clapton in Nashville, and heard Williams do this song. After the show, they went to Clapton’s hotel room and took turns singing and playing it. Williams’ version had already been released, but before you knew it, Clapton had recorded it, too.
A later live version from Clapton was released as a single in 1980 and made the pop top 30.
Enjoy Clapton’s version. Mr. Williams will be along a little later….

Could be @FourWalls he's a great guitarist but his singing leaves a lot to be desired
Now that I think about it, I don't think he sang when he was part of Cream, not sure though.

@rebelann — he sang lead on a couple of songs, including sharing vocals with Jack Bruce on “Sunshine of Your Love.”

@JohnRoberts — Layla was mad because you told her “lay down, Sally.”

Clapton is best known as a blues kind of guy, so it makes sense because they call country music “white man’s blues.”
