With a title like that, you KNOW that this is a country song. And, since the title starts with the letter Y, you know that we’re at the end of the alphabetical list. Start the top 10 tomorrow. Meanwhile, use today’s song that mentions Los Angeles. You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma - David Frizzell and Shelly West This is not exactly second generation country music. David Frizzell is the brother of legendary singer Lefty Frizzell, not his son. Meanwhile, Shelley West is the daughter of Dottie West. Both Lefty and Dottie are in the Country Music Hall of Fame. While David and Shelly had careers together and independently, I don’t see either of them making it. Earlier this year, you may remember that I used Sandy Pinkard in my “top“ ten obituaries list for 2025. Most of you said you had never heard of him. Well, here he is. He wrote the song with the Collins Kids’ Larry Collins. (I would think John will remember the Collins Kids from Town Hall Party.) This was used in the film Any Which Way You Can. It was also a big country hit. The title is funny and stereotypical country, but in reality it’s one of those lost love songs that you expect out of country music. You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma Written by Sandy Pinkard and Larry Collins Recorded by David Frizzell and Shelly West From Carrying on the Family Names, 1981 L.A. LYRICS: I’ve got a calico cat and a two room flat on a street in west L.A.

For years, I worked with a fellow who married a girl he met in college (they are still going strong!) and he would often sing out a line or two of this song to his wife, a super sweet lady--they have always been so devoted to each other. So I have heard this song a gazillion times, and I always smile to myself if I hear it again--true love stories are rare these days!

@FourWalls We don’t see or hear of enough sincere and true love stories these days. It’s nice to know that some people love and appreciate their significant other for a lifetime!

He passed away a couple of years ago. Those were some wild videos with him and Joe Maphis.

There’s one thing about country music for certain: we’ve got the song titles.

Ha I did not know David Frizzell was Lefty's brother, I always thought he was the son. That title is so country it almost makes me smile before the song even starts. Funny that it came from the Any Which Way You Can movie, I forgot about that one.

I never saw Any Which Way… I figured they’d milked that for all it was worth in the first movie.

I don't recognize it, but I would bet I played it on the country station at some point.
