Go Away - "Roll Me Away"

We don’t even have to keep track of these things for an astute person to notice that this fellow seems to show up in these  music series’ here with some frequency. We even saw Bob Seger and Silver Bullet Band just yesterday, in fact. “Roll Me Away” is a road trip anthem from Seger’s 1982 album, The Distance. And it doesn’t get much more “road trip” than this: Seger wrote the tune after doing a motorcycle trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. That’s freedom, baby! Fun Fact: The Distance was released in a time after Seger’s record label, Capitol Records, had stopped releasing albums in 8-track tape format. Bob Seger, however, knew his audience and understood that many of them still listened to music that way. He encouraged Capitol to release the album on 8-track as well. “Roll Me Away” is a perfect example of why Bob Seger is in both the Rock and Roll, and Songwriter’s Halls of Fame.
