Howdy from the other side of the river! I’m out enjoying the weather and the leaves. I can’t forget to take you along to Hollywood, though, as we continue my ten favorite songs that mention Hollywood. Here’s today’s song. #8: Hollywood Hills - Beat Farmers It takes a young man’s life, and it probably will The San Diego music newspaper titled the obituary of Paul Kamanski, who wrote this song (he also wrote “Bigger Stones” from the first Beat Farmers album), after that line. That’s one of the great true lines you can find in the book of rock and roll philosophy. Fitting that it was the opening song on an album titled The Pursuit of Happiness. The Beat Farmers didn’t pursue happiness as much as they chased it with reckless abandon. Country Dick Montana was exactly what you see in the opening of this clip. He was also a terrific drummer. The live shows on You Tube may give you an indication of what they were like live, but there’s nothing that comes close. Gallagher’s “Sledge-o-Matic” had nothing on Country Dick spraying beer on the audience. I love them. I miss them.
