Continuing the winter-proofing!

Still working on my plan to keep the house warmer this winter, I decided I wanted some curtains in our bathroom. Ideally we would have new windows, but this is the next best thing. When we bought the house, more than ten years ago now, there was a curtain rail in the bathroom but the owners just draped some filmy fabric artfully over it for decoration. For privacy there was a roller blind. And my partner took the rail down so we could re-decorate and he never put it back. After a few years I thought maybe he didn’t want to put it back and I asked if I could use it for something else, but no, he insisted he wanted it. So I waited a few more years, still nothing. I would casually mention it every year or two, but there’s only so many times you can ask for something before it becomes nagging. I know I should have just stuck it back up myself, but as I mentioned before I have rather a phobia about drilling into the house walls! Anything else is fine. Anyway finally our outside light stopped working and he was forced to do something about that because it is pitch dark outside. And while he had the drill to put up a new light he did finally decide to do some other jobs at the same time. He put up the curtain rail for the front door, and he replaced the rail in the bathroom. Only a ten year wait!! The window has a vent in the frame which is presumably meant to provide ventilation or reduce condensation or something, but in reality just lets in dirt and cold air, I can actually feel a cold breeze coming in if I hold my hand near the window. So I thought some curtains would help with that. They would also help block out the light from the bright lights our neighbours have around their house which are on all night every night, and tend to wake me up if I go to the bathroom during the night. There is a chance that the humid conditions might allow mould to grow on the curtains, but I’m willing to risk that. I was given some nice curtains through Freegle (yet again!) They were longer than I needed, and they had some mould marks at the bottom already. So I cut off the excess (and the marks), re-hemmed them, and here they are, as good as new, with the added bonus that if they do get mould marks I can just throw them out and they won’t have cost me anything, and I won’t even need to feel guilty about it because if I hadn’t taken them they would have been thrown out already! That’s awesome you got them for free and were able to use them even if you had to do a little work to them. I hope it does help keep some of the drafts out. We are having issues with mold.

There are no windows to need curtains on in my bathroom. Sounds like you got a good deal.

That is a good use for those curtains. We do not have a window in our bathroom.

The only curtains that are in the bathroom are for the showers section.

Mentioning something once every two or three years could hardly be construed as nagging - but men tend to think differently about such things. I remember one time when there were a lot of things needing attention, I wrote a big long list. That worked quite well. Vince would say 'what's on the list' and would tackle, probably, the easiest but at least over time things did get done. Of course, I did keep adding things at the bottom.
