What makes a family photo feel natural to you?

I'm a family photographer in Munich, Germany, and I keep noticing that the photos parents love most are rarely the perfectly posed ones. It's the moments in between: a child laughing at a sibling, a parent looking down at a newborn. What makes a photo feel real and natural to you? Do you prefer posed portraits or candid shots?

Thanks for asking, Anja! Most of all, the sense that the photo was taken by a family member or close friend, and usually in situations that a professional photographer wouldn't actually be welcome in.
Like Christmas morning with the kids - some things are not meant for outsiders to attend.
But that's just me and I am an old grouch.

For what I consider a perfect shot is those that aren't choregraphed and just made out of bloopers because you will definitely see the authentic reaction to the subject. Thank you for sharing and welcome to myLot!

@anjajepsen I prefer photos of my kids when they don’t realise that they are being photographed.
