Week of mushroom foraging

I loved going away to Cape Cod for a week. But instead of a relaxing vacation it turned into more of a job. In the morning we’d spend hours foraging for mushrooms and then after we got back to the hotel we’d spend hours dealing with the mushrooms we foraged. We had to clean the stipe (foot) of each mushroom, then wash all the mushrooms and boil them in salted water. Then we had to transfer them to plastic bags and freeze them. That took hours as well. When we ran out of room in the freezer we’d dehydrate the mushrooms. We did not boil mushrooms prior to doing that. I love foraging for mushrooms a lot and I can do it for hours, but it is exhausting. And I prefer foraging for mushrooms to cleaning them. That part is not as fun. I only get to forage for mushrooms once a year if I’m lucky. Not sure when I’ll get to do it again.

Will you get to bring some home for eating? Or for "interesting experiences"?

My mom and I brought home a lot of dehydrated mushrooms, and a lot of bags of frozen mushrooms.

hours of cleaning the stipe on every single one sounds like a total grind, that part would kill the fun for me fr... Hope the freezer stash was worth it tho, that's some serious haul

I have never done it but I like eating mushrooms. We just buy fresh ones in the market and our cook would prepare it. She would just sauté them. I like how she does it.
