Today’s song that references Hollywood is going to make your head spin. I can almost guarantee that. It’s not my intention to make anyone’s chin hit the floor when I spew out these facts, but sometimes they’re just really wild. Hang on, here we go! #6: I Believe in You - Don Williams Listen to that song. Right up Don Williams’ alley. Perfect “mellow” lyrics, delivered by one of the few people I’d say ever gave Jim Reeves a run for his money when it came to a voice. Sure, no problem. What’s weird about that? You remember that rockin’ Hollies hit, “Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)”? Totally opposite sound to this right? Yep. They were co-written by the same guy. Roger Cook, in fact, after writing a lot of pop and rock hits (such as “My Baby Loves Lovin’,” “Doctor’s Orders,” and the song that became a Coke jingle, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”), moved to Nashville and started writing country hits. Cook is the first British-born songwriter inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame! You just never know where a little song’s research is gonna take you. One reason I love these things so much. Oh, and Don Williams’ wonderful voice doesn’t hurt either! I Believe in You Written by Roger Cook and Sam Hogin Recorded by Don Williams From I Believe in You, 1980 HOLLYWOOD LYRICS: That Superman sand Robin Hood are still alive in Hollywood

I actually remember this one! Not just "It sounds like what my grandpa listened to."

How about that! That was quite a run that Don Williams had.

@JohnRoberts — he was in the folk group the Pozo Seco Singers before his country career began. And yes, he recorded “Amanda” six years before Waylon.

the fact that Roger Cook wrote both this and Long Cool Woman is so random, that one got me. Gotta say i never would have connected them ...fr that's a bit of a head scratcher

It is wild, however, it shows the diversity of many of these songwriters.

This is just such a beautiful song. I haven't heard it in ages so had to play it twice.
