Government to the rescue.

All our governments are caught between raising revenue to pay for defence, education, health etc and trying to ease the cost of living for ordinary folk - an impossible tightrope to walk. Now the British government has decided to suspend import duties on a range of food stuffs that will give a saving to the average family of £21 - a YEAR!!! What are the taxes coming off? The item that catches everyone’s eye is gherkins. Yes, the price of gherkins is going to tumble by a penny so we can all sleep safely in our beds at night. There are other items too of course, but I’d love to hear the reasoning behind including gherkins on the list. They’re hardly an essential item, though some rich, entitled nob in an overheated government office probably thinks that the lower orders all pig out on burgers and by slicing the cost of gherkins the price of burgers too will plummet and we will be eternally grateful.

The thinking behind some of these decisions is non-existent.
