There are some songs that you probably thought of when I announce this theme. Hopefully this was one of them. I know @rebelann asked for the band…she may not like the song not being a rocker, but hey, at least you got the band!
Here’s today’s song.
#5: Celluloid Heroes - the Kinks
If you covered him in garbage, George Sanders would still have class
This was recorded during the time that George Sanders (Best Supporting Actor in All About Eve and one of the actors to play Mr. Freeze on Batman) died. I don’t know if that was added for a tribute to Sanders after the basic song was written or not (that verse is missing in a lot of live recordings of this song), but that is a GREAT line about an actor.
The entire song shows the sad side of fame. All that Marilyn Monroe endured for a star on the Walk of Fame, where the Kinks gently request that you “please don’t tread on dearest Marilyn,” makes you wonder if it’s worth it. We only get to enjoy the finished product, never seeing the pain behind the people who entertain us.
What a song.
Celluloid Heroes
Written by Ray Davies
Recorded by the Kinks
From Everybody’s In Show-Biz, 1972
HOLLYWOOD LYRICS:
You can see al the stars as you walk down Hollywood Boulevard

I thought about that when I was in Hollywood. All that fame and fortune, and here we are stomping on their stars.

This is a classic song. The Kinks rank right up there among the greatest British bands to come out of the 60s.

Didn't sound like The Kinks. I didn't recognize song. Hubby says I didn't give him enough time to hear more.

Ghheeee, thanks for the mention.
I never heard this one, it's pretty good but nothing like those I remember from when they first began
