Today I present what may be the most disturbing song in the countdown. Lyrically, probably, and definitely that screen grab has you terrified. Here’s today’s salute to Los Angeles. #5: L.A. County - Lyle Lovett Ah, from the days when Lyle Lovett had the Eraserhead look. Seriously, back then he looked like he belonged in The Cure or something. Lyrically, this sounds like something Lovett found in John Hiatt’s or Warren Zevon’s trash can and finished. Yeah, it’s morbid in a way, and yet you can’t help but laugh at his introduction (he had another great intro for this song in concert: “It’s a sad love story, boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy shoots girl”). My affection for the weirdness of Hiatt and Zevon explain why I love this one so much. By the way, I’ve met Lovett a couple of times. He is a very sweet man. So is Hiatt, and so was Zevon.
