Let’s move from L.A. over to Hollywood. (Up to Hollywood? Down? Heck if I know, I just followed the signs when I was there.
) Lovely cities, honestly, or I thought so when I was there. I don’t live there, and I haven’t been there in 40-plus years, but I enjoyed it. This song is older than I am, but I enjoy it, too!
#4: Ballad of a Teenage Queen - Johnny Cash
See you tomorrow.
Oh, you want me to say something about the Man in Black? He wasn’t dedicated to wearing only black then. There was Luther and Marshall, and I have no clue who the woman is.
(Actually, that was a member of the Gene Lowery Four, a gospel group who backed a number of Sun Records artists in the late 50s.) This is one of those feel-good story songs about a young girl who discovered small town life was better than fame
It was a #1 hit for Johnny Cash, and remains one of his many popular tunes from the Sun era.
Ballad of a Teenage Queen
Written by Jack Clement
Recorded by Johnny Cash
From Sings the Songs That Made Him Famous, 1958

There's a meme on Facebook about "don't use words like 'north' or 'east' in giving me directions, just say 'go down here to where the K-Mart used to be and turn left.'"
That's how southerners give directions.

Sun Records is my favorite Johnny Cash era. I know everyone prefers the Man in Black Folsom Prison Blues later era. I guess I like the rockabilly vibe sound.

I grew up with all of his Sun albums in the house, so that's my sentimental preference, too.

Hubby and I are both big Johnny Cash fans so we both knew both song and artist here right away
