I came across this squirrel up in an oak tree at work the other day, munching away on a fried chicken tender. Who knew squirrels ate chicken?!?!
I just thought it was funny because I thought squirrels only ate nuts and acorns. But I guess they are opportunistic gatherers, although I have no idea where this squirrel found a chicken tender. But from the looks of how fat this squirrel is, it seems that it must be eating pretty good.
Be careful squirrel, you're going to clog your little arteries if you keep eating too much fried chicken!
Do you have squirrels where you live? Do you feed them? We have squirrels all over the place here in north Florida. And those bushy tailed rats are always stealing the seed out of everyone's bird feeders!

The squirrels and raccoons like the peanuts in their shells that I thought I was buying for the crows.

NO we have no squirrels here at all.
But recently, we have been warned in the news of a squirrel in the capital region. They were illegally brought here by one idiot foreigner. We were told not to feed them if we see one nor to pet them because they bring diseases. They compete with our own native wildlife, they prey on birds, and damage crops and wires.

I wasn't joking when I said they are bushy tailed rats. Take away that fluffy tail they have, and what do you see? A rat. And rats are no good.
And yes, those squirrels will chew through every wire they can sink their teeth into. It's so annoying.
Yet, for some reason, people here love squirrels.

My neighbor has four bird feeders set up in her yard. She's been trying for years to figure out a way to keep the squirrels from stealing the bird food, all to no avail. The squirrels are smart, and have figured out how to bypass every squirrel-proof contraption she puts up.

That squirrel in my photo better be careful about how much it eats, because if it gets too fat it won't be able to fit inside its squirrel nest without squishing all it's family members.

We have lots of squirrels here too. There are a lot of grand oak trees in my neighborhood, and they love having such big trees to nest in and run around in. Not to mention all the acorns they collect and eat.

They are all over the place here, and yeah..I think if something looks good to them they will eat it.

I think the only thing here in my neighborhood stopping the squirrels from taking over the world is the hawks that dive down and scoop them up for a tasty meal. I'm sure that's the only thing keeping the squirrel population in check.

I'm in a densely populated neighborhood and overrun with squirrels, coyotes, raccoons, skunks, lizards, possums and even an occasional rabbit.
