As with the song that tops the L.A. list, there’s no shock here on the Hollywood side. And, as with the #1 L.A. song, this song mentions both L.A. and Hollywood, so they could have been reversed on the lists. Another favorite at the top of another list.
#1: Face on the Cutting Room Floor - Steve Goodman
Earlier Scott (TeamFreak) said he was surprised that I hadn’t used the Eagles “King of Hollywood” in the countdown. Truthfully, I’m not that fond of that song. Additionally, you have THIS song that addresses the casting couch so much better.
Typical story: girl goes to Hollywood to make it big, and discovers it’s not that easy. However, this song has a happy ending. In one of the best kiss-off lines in a song, when the agent tells her “she’ll never get anywhere in her clothes,” the next thing you know she’s on a bus out of town. “Sunrise on Sunset, she won’t be around.” Dang, what a great line.
As I mentioned with the Steve Goodman song used in the L.A. countdown (the title song from this album), Goodman never saw this released. It shipped September 21, 1984, the day after he died from leukemia. Boy, did he leave an album, and a song, to be remembered by.
Thanks for reading.

I have not, but I have seen videos of what they do when that wind kicks up. It’s awful.

@rebelann — I would be far more concerned about the way they whip wildfires up.

Way to go, hubby! The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band covered this song (Jeff Hanna the co-writer is a member of the band).

Did Goodman compose a song for every theme?

He wrote one about chicken Cordon Bleu. You don’t see that in every song.

The heartbreaking thing was, he knew it. He told his friends he HAD to make this album.
