Does anyone know of any good ways to help increase circulation in a limb like a leg. My doctors tell me to keep it elevated to help increase circulation, but I find that when I do that my leg goes numb after about 5 to 10 minutes. Other than elevation is there any other solutions you have heard of?

Sometimes numbness is due to nerve compression or nerve comprimise. I take a B12 vitamin everyday (I had nerve compression and damage) and that helps my leg numbness. I also elevate my leg when I'm sitting, just so the leg is even with my hips and not higher. This seems to help a lot. :)

Massage is one way ..... with the massage being done downwards away from the heart ..... also try hot and cold packs, or putting in very cold water then followed by in hot water .... no moe than 15 minutes maximum .... but better if between 5-10 minutes each time. It the foot is going numb you can also try not elevating it so high .... plus putting something soft like a cushion under the foot plus have both feet up .... not just the one.

Firstly I think you should be talking to your Doctors about this problem, but in the meantime if the problem still persists then perhaps you should massage it. Of course this discussion is now 3 months old, so the situation might have improved considerably.
So, massage regularly to get the blood supply circulating, and as someone said take a vitamin b tablet. They will not harm you and can really do some good, but either way you will benefit from the tablet. Flex the leg, stretch as much as you can without causing pain and at the same time do keep it elevated for as long as you possibly can. Good luck and hope the problem is resolved soon, if it hasn't been by now. :)

Try soaking it in hot water. That is what I have to do to get my leg to start working properly again. Hot tubs are even better if you have one you can use.

You do not say what kind of a condition you are treating that has impaired your circulation. That my have some clues about other potential treatment. Alternating cold and heat treatments does pretty well for circulation, like a cold pool, then a hot tub, or ice and then heat packs. You know of course not to put either on bare skin, and to limit exposure to about 10 minutes at a time. Massage improves circulation, I would rub down, away from my heart. Exercise, flexing that calf muscle will improve circulation. I would elevate, as suggested, but only for about 10 minutes, then mild stretches or exercise for 10. Most of all, if what my doc says does not help, or he does not explain real well, I would certainly seek a second opinion.
