Mostly houses are more common, as I live in a rural town. Yes, we have some apartments, but not too many. Most of them are at least in part income controlled. I have lived in duplexes, but no other kind of apartments. I prefer houses, and am an owner.

I would love to have an older duplex. I'd live in one side and make a studio for painting and such on the other side, maybe teach some classes and try to run a little business. Just a dream...

We are the most populated county in our state. There are a lot of houses, but also a lot of apartments, condos and townhouses. They keep knocking things down to put in more high rise condos as more and more people move to this area.

In places other than the capital cities of Australia, houses are the most common dwelling. Holiday destinations such as the Gold Coast in QLD have heaps of high rise apartments though. The "great Australian dream" is to own you own home.

well apartments are commone here in our street and in our blocks. well this is common because we are just a walking distance away from ateneo de davao university and other schools too. see wherever there are schools nearby, more and more apartments rise from houses because this can be a source of income.. more students want to have an apartment or a place to live in right next to the school so that tardiness in their behalf may be decreased.. and also its much convenient for a student if in case he/she has forgotten something. he/she can just go home and go back to school for 5 -10min.. although i live in an apartment near the school i always am tardy because of the fact that i rely too much on my place being near school.. instead of waking up on time i tend to procastinate a bit more. i reason to myself that school is just 5 steps away and thats the reason why i oversleep and get late or worst, be absent in my class. i prefer to be in a home though because i dont want to share with other people my private place.. well im not selfish but i think that a home is for people whom you trust most and whom you really love. also i would like to be in a home because my parents will be there to take care of me and to check out on me.. i wont be the one to cook the food or iron the clothes or wash the dishes because the maid will do that and not me.. here in the apartment i do all the chores and i just hate it!. well thats it!. how about you?.

I love to live in a individual house.. but apartments are safe than individual house, since apartments are having good secruties with all the facilities, but in individual house, we need to have everything at our own risk.

I live in Bangalore, India. Prior to 1970, people were not used to living in Apartment type houses. Since 1970 slowly it picked up and today, everybody thinks of apartment, because the land prices have gone up 100% from last 2 years. Bangalore is one of the fastest growing city in Asia. That is due to its strategic location for thousands of soft ware industry players, most of them exporters. Bangalore going vertical.

In my town we have a mixture of both. On my street it is purely houses. It's a really nice neighborhood. Not richie rich, but nice. The people are nice, it's family oriented, it's an older community. I like houses better. I lived in apartments, I prefer houses.

I see more appartments nearby. But I would prefer a house to live in. It gives you more privacy and freedom, while giving you ample space and you can even move around in your own garden.

I live in a fairly small town so there are only 3-4 sets of apartment buildings. I live in a house and I really love living here. The good thing about living in an apartment is that you never have to mow the grass or shovel the snow!

Well, you are right...there are advantages to apartment living! Having someone else care for the yard and shovel snow would be ideal!

I like that factor also. I don't think I'd like being able to hear through the walls of the people living in the next apartment.

That's very interesting. I live in a city of about 200,000 people, so people can choose to live in apartments or houses, or condominiums. We have sections of the city that some would call rich and sections that some would call poor, but nothing we would call slums.

In our community, there are only houses. But in the entire city, of over a million people, there are a lot of apartments. Right now there are probably more houses than apartments, but with our population explosion over the last decade the trend now is towards "loft living" buildings that have retail space and offices on the lower floor and luxury apartments on the upper floors. Personally I prefer living in a house. I don't like sharing a wall with another family, no privacy and too often subjected to their music, conversation and more personal noises, if you get my drift. Also, I appreciate having a yard -- not often found in apartments -- for gardening and room for the grandkids to play.

We have mainly houses in my town but do have some apartment buildings. We also have houses that have been converted into apartments. We rented an apartment for a few months but quickly found a mobile home in a park to buy. That lasted 8yrs b4 we sold that and bought an acre parcel with a mobile on it. I love this property. Surrounded by woods with a creek running along the back of it. Very quiet and very private. Will never go back to an apartment or trailer park again. I don't like neighbors being that close to me.
