It's my birthday today and I am celebrating a year of 'retirement' and 66 years of being on this earth. The last year has been eventful for me and I am looking back on the many things I can be thankful for (even some which didn't seem so good at the time!)
I have attended two weddings (on of which was my daughter's) and one funeral; I was officially 'retired' (rather against my will) but I have used the time to expand many interests, including beginning to earn money online (it may be very little at the moment, but I am learning). I have made a number of delightful friends and I have taken on a new (very part-time) job as Father Christmas at a local garden centre. I have also had some rather sobering medical news which probably entails a serious operation in the New Year.

Happy birthday. Well done for not just giving up and feeling useless after retirement. You can now fill your days with things that are much more interesting than work.
I'm sorry to hear about your health problems but with the positive outlook you appear to have to life in general, I'm sure you'll get through it and learn from the experience.
Although we haven't met, I feel that I know you and you are a lovely person.

Thank you, NannaCroc! You are right. I am really not the sort of person who can sit down and cry over spilt milk. I will generally get far too interested in how the bits of glass make interesting patterns in it or maybe discover that milk is actually the ideal thing for cleaning floors!

I just wanted to say, milk is absolutely brilliant for cleaning floors! That;s the kind of thing you find out when you have two small boys who never look where they are going! And baby wee works well too but that's a bit stinky!
