I get picked at school for being an ATHEIST. What can I do?

It all started 3 days ago,like everyone here in Greece (by the way I am
not Greek), I go to school every day and it was my turn to say the
prayer in front of the whole school . When I got close to the mic i
said to my proffesor next to me that i do not know the prayer because i
am an atheist (witch is also true) . Everything went fine for the next
minutes while they have chosen another kid to say the prayer. When i
went down and joined the others , they all started asking what have i
done and got away from saying the prayer. I told them the truth that I
am an atheist.It went good untill the headmaster asked me to go to his
office, we had a litle chit chat about what brought me to atheism, he
said there is nothing wrong with being an atheist (his voice tone gave
him away though) .Everything seemed ok .Next morning i was late for the
prayer andd when i passed by the school the head master said in the mic
that i was in deep truble because i was late. THERE ANOTHER 5 KIDS
CLEARLY VISIBLE IN FRONT OF ME AND HE DIDNT SAY A SINGLE WORD TO THEM
.He stormed in my classroom and demanded to know why i was late, and
told me that he wanted to see my mother tomorow. IS THIS RIGHT? THE
GREEK CONSTITUTION ALLOWS ME TO CHOOSE ANY RELIGION!!!

While I of course support your decision to be an atheist, I think that perhaps this is not a case of him picking on you because you are an atheist. Wait and see what it is about, and deal with the events as they come up. If you believe that there is no God, then it will be easy for you to realize that things like this don't happen for a reason, they just happen. So there may (or may not) be a direct cause-effect relationship here...

Sometimes these are the things we must face for our choices. You have to ignore the criticism and be true to yourself. Just as a religious person should be expected to hold to their beliefs when facing discrimination, so should you not give in to the lemmings who want you to fit the mold.

I agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and unfortunately some have to be jerks about it. I do feel it was wrong of the headmaster to have singled you out, and something should be done about it. Maybe when your mother speaks to him, that subject should be brought up. He has an obligation to treat all students with the same respect regardless of their religious beliefs. You are just going to have to stand strong with your beliefs, you will find out who your true friends are.

That is wrong, just because your atheist. This is what I hate about religious peopel many of them act this way. I am atheist as well. I never had strong belief in god and with all that has occured in my life and in this world it makes me a stronger and stronger atheist and I know that I am never going to believe in god and I know that. I dont mind religious people however I do hate that religious people get so angry and start with the Im going to pray for you and if you dont believe in god and this or that you are going to die and suffer and go to hell and will not be happy and this and that and so on. I don't believe in god for various reasons everyone is entitled to their own opinon but with the way the world is today if there really was a god then life would be different people would not be suffering in so many ways and everyone in the world would be happy and skipping along but that is not the way it is life is not that way and god does not exist. So what? I dont believe if they do its fine but just let us be and stop pestering with all this your going to hell god loves you it truly annoys me.

Your head master is an idiot. He should get fired for being so bias. That's just the "perks" of being an atheist (being sarcastic). It's very common to be discriminated for being different, but you already know that. People are just narrow minded and can't accept things that don't reflect their own way of living. There really isn't much you can do to change the way people perceive your disbeliefs, but you can help them understand. At time though, it's just a waste of time. Don't make the issue tap a nerve, just be.

Dont worry..i'm also an atheist and i've ne'r faced any prob.Abt u i must say dat this superstitious world will try its best to keep its cobwebs of fanacitism....which only can be broken by the strong hearts.Just dont bother and take things as strongly as possible.

i think everyone should respect everyone's belief. and that includes religion. it was immature for the head master to act that way.

Oh no. Why are those people treating you that way? You should say something. Like, tell them that you've been discriminating for being in a different religion. Tell them all what you are keeping inside. There's a lot of possibilities by good communication. You can also ask for help to the superior of your school.

Well, I hope your mother put him in his place. I had a sort of similar problem with my daughter's teacher. My daughter told me that her teacher wanted to see me as my daughter was disrespectful to her. I was astonished, as I assumed my children were well behaved at school, and I would come down on them like a ton of bricks if they were not. When I arrived to see the teacher, she told me that she had asked the class "Which is worse, to steal a penny from a poor man or a pound from a rich man?" My daughter answered that it was breaking the seventh commandment to steal. She also asked the class "Which is worse, to kill a person inside a church or outside a church?", and again my daughter answered that it was breaking the fith commandment to kill somebody. The nun told me that my daughter made her feel rediculous in front of the whole class, but I told her that she was the one who asked the rediculous questions in front of the whole class and my daughter had just given a truthful answer. Well, after much more argument, she never bothered my daughter again and I have to say I am proud of my daughter for giving truthful answers.

I have a lot of friends that are atheist. The people at school should not be mean to you for it. Everyone has the right to believe in what they want to. If they are mean to you try explaining why you are Atheist or why you dont understand the big deal. It might help.

Tell your parents about the situation and let them meet with the principal. I this treatment persist, sue the the school! Don't let this setback bother you kid. Take this in your stride and keep moving.

i'm not sure but if its anything like america...you can make a big deal out of it and take the head master to court...possibly get him fired and have more than 15 mins of fame...as long as the students are on ur side or have some friends you are good. and everyone should respect your freedom of religion!!!

I share your views on atheism. I hope that your mom is the best person to convey things directly to your school authorities. Be patient. In a world where religions dominate almost all spectrums of life,sometimes we may face situations like these. Never get shaken from your views. Seek the truth......

I completely disagree with Atheism but at the same time according to this countrys constitution you are doing nothing wrong. You could probably make a big deal out of this with the school.

What your head master has done was absolutely condemnbale.As responsible teacher he must treat all the students equally irrespective of religion.If he
do not like to see other religion students in class he must resign his job because school is a public place.Explain clearly what happened in school to your mother so that she can take care of the things.
