Why do people write blogs...and who reads these blogs...not me..I have no need to read into someone elses life...it seems like a diary...but you let the whole world read it??

i started blogging at friendster.com, just a venue to release thoughts and feelings. a few months ago i discovered paid blogsites, so i tried it, but the site (the design) is so boring, like it's not maintained by whoever is managing it, so i lose enthusiasm. recently i joined blogger.com, and i'm starting to like it coz of the design. blogging is not really for readers, it's actually for writers, for venting. i write there for myself, not really to have readers. whatever payment i'd get from it would just be a bonus :)

blogs are of different topics like health, fitness, science, technology etc. We can learn a lot from such blogs. Personally I am also not interested in blogs which deal with life stories of individuals. Who is interested in that. However I like blogs on other topics of my interest.

Blogs are not just about people's personal lives. They can be about other useful topics like health, computers etc. just like a website. You can check out the following blogs: www.simple-fix.blogspot.com www.foodasmedicine.blogspot.com www.easyhealth.fullhydblogs.com etc. hope you get the point.

I might check it out...but I cant say that I've ever needed to hit a blog to learn about something. I will keep it in mind though.

Don't settle on too narrow a definition for blogs. Some are like diaries, others are something totally different. A blog is really a series of web pages that are layed out differently. People are busy creating new content everyday. I recommend you do some online searching and look through blogs. Many are most certainly not a diary.

I think some people write blogs as a form of self expression which is healing for many. I write a couple of blogs for that purpose. My brother and I have a depression blog called His & Hers at http://his-hers.ozzieblackcat.com I have one blog where I like to write my opinions or reviews about various products or services. Maybe writing blogs is a way of talking with the hope that someone will listen.

I guess to each their own...I personally wouldnt b lookin for depression blogs...I like to read about happy stuff...but I like your idea about the reviews...some good info?

No...I don't think they are a waste of time. I have a couple of blogs. However..now there are many blogs and some even pay you to write. I have one of those...however I have not made much yet...I just like it because it helps get my work out there..and it is a good way to get things off your mind...and onto the page. I guess it is not for everyone..but blogs have become quite popular...

If I wasnt makin money...I'd probably lose interest really fast...but I guess its a way to vent...just as long as I'm not bashing people in the process.

I can see your point and I have mixed emotions about blogs. From a writers standpoint, I can see and have felt the release from getting things out of your brain and onto a piece of paper. But at the same time, why not do this in a private area only you can see. However, I do have friends who live far away who blog and upload pics of the family so I can see what is going on and I would not miss that for the world.

I used to have a blog online, but eventually grew out of it. I found that after I spent so much time writing it, that I'd end up deleting half of it anyway. Poetry is so much easier for me. Nobody can tell if it's fiction or not. =)

I'm an artist and I've seen stories and heard people say about how much success they have gotten from doing a blog. They would list their current works in progress on their blog. Many have actually sold paintings from their blogs. I'm actually thinking of setting up a blog for myself to see what happens. Problem is that I don't work on my art everyday sometimes. I take breaks now and then.

i thinkk that blogs could be usefull for someone going through something extreme in there lives who are somewhat isolated and alothough its like a diary they may like the feedback and sharing that comes with it if they are isolated. For myself its the same as you i really dont feel the need but when i was pregnant i probably could have done one just to say everything i was feeling (yup my husband probably go tired of hearing alllllll of it :) so it would have been nice to be getting all my thoughts and feeling about it out of my system but as opposed to an actual paper diary i would have felt that although i wasnt directly speaking to someone i was still being heard by people. So while i can understand the urge in some circumstances i definetly dont have it and really havent been bothered to read many at this point. +

I personally don't get into them. I think they originated to be a sort of personal thing but once others realized you could allow the world to look, became a big way to stand on your soapbox.

No dude, they're not a waste of time. Have you tried building your own blog? I mean, programming your own blog? I'm trying to show you that if you build something by your needs, general needs, it'll get useful and not a waste of time. Plus, they're not all the same. What matters is the content. I've seen a lot of well done blogs, with good info in it.
