A recent discussion reminded me of this incident because the town is close to me. Back in October, 1994 the lady in Union, South Carolina who put her two boys in the car and pushed it into a lake then claimed that her car was stolen from her with her babies in it. Then later on they found the car in the lake with the boys in it dead. She stood in front of a camera on national tv and lied. If you remember this, how many of you believed her and how many believed she was lying from the start? I knew she was lying because the whole time, she wouldnt even look at the camera.

And two years later, I find this and respond! I was pretty young when it happened, and I believe it had all come to a head by the time the story reached me in NJ. But it was a story that hit pretty close to home for me. In a way, Susan Smith did something positive for mankind, in that after she murdered her children, people started to realize that women are TOTALLY capable of extreme brutality and violence. And future mothers with an eye toward infanticide were not so easily dismissed as suspects. And that could realistically save some children's lives.
