The symptoms of type 2 diabetes can be tricky, which helps explain why millions of people have the disease but don't know it. You may know the classic symptoms of fatigue,recurrent infections and frequent urination. Lesser known signs: BAD BREATH - (a smell like nail polish remover) excess sugar in saliva prompts bacteria growth, which helo creat foul-odor gases. SWOLLEN GUMS - increased bacteria can lead to inflammation and bleeding. BLURRED VISION - sugar in the lens of the eye makes it swell and refract light improperly. FREQUENT THIRST - in an effort to eliminate sugar, the body demands plenty of fluids. If you have 2 or more symptoms, and any other risk factors (being over age 40 or overweight; having a family history of diabetes; having high blood pressure or cholesterol) see your doctor.

Then the main issue with this also is going to a Dr. that takes it Seriously. I am a type 1.5 Insulin dependant Diabetic due to lack of knowledge from Doctors. I know of other doctors who say anything under 200-250 is no Big deal and then we wonder why so many loose limbs, sight, or die from this disease. And then another Big issue is Health Care expense, especially in the US. Most people have lousy coverage so it is hard to treat if you have no $$. We at one time were over $10,000 in debt in Medical Bills just to save my right leg due to being Diabetic. And if was after I got Medical again they decided it was time to put me on Insulin after my BG had been running over 350 all of the time for at least 2 yrs.

The high medical cost in the US is an issue. Do you know this fact or not but medical tourism is also on the rise. People from countries where the medical costs are high go to countries where the costs is relatively low, mainly in Asia. There they get good treatment and also they can enjoy the cheap travel and sight seeing. I have found such cases in Nepal, my country, and also I have seen TV programs about such things happenning in India. Also, I have heard of it in South East Asian countries.

This really helps and frequent urination need not be the only sign. One should undergo checking of blood for sugar once in 6 months. Also when one urinates if ants surround that place then it is a clear indication that the person is suffering from diabetics.

diabetes - ou can take good care of yourself and your diabetes by learning

    * what to eat

    * how much to eat

    * when to eat

Making wise food choices can help you

    * feel good every day

    * lose weight if you need to

    * lower your risk for heart disease, stroke, and other problems caused by diabetes

Healthful eating, along with physical activity and, if needed, diabetes medicines, helps keep your blood glucose in your target range. The diabetes target range is the level suggested by diabetes experts for good health. You can help prevent health problems by keeping your blood glucose levels on target.
but really of all given the most classic sign of diabetes are these three 1. polydypsia - meaning the person is always thirsty 2. polyphagia - meaning the person is always hungry 3. polyuria - meaning the person is always urinating i hope i contributed much. good post and goodluck to your payout.

Wow, I think I better get checked out then. I have most of these symptoms myself. Diabetes does run in my family, so I guess it is just a matter of time before it decides to claim me as well. That is scary!

Well I would say that the classic triad for diabetes mellitus are: polydipsia (due to excessive thirst), polyphagia (urge to eat because the body is unable to convert sugar to energy), polyuria (excessive or frequent urination). These are the three P's of diabetes mellitus, there is another P which is persistence of wounds which is as you say recurrent infections. May this also help the others understand Diabetes Mellitus.

Yes I had all of these as well as PCOS which brought on my Type 2 Diabetes. Thanks for the wonderful information you have given. I hope it prompts someboby to go and see their Doctor for the simple test to check it out. I have only been diabetic since August last year but it can explain alot of my illness in past years.
