"Thinking Games" Benefit People In Life?

When I was four years old in Pre-K our teacher taught us how to play chess and for whatever reason I took to it. I ended up playing competitevely from grades 4th through 8th and was ranked as high as 14th in the state of texas for my age group during junior high. I still play chess and have since taken to spades, hearts, euchre, and other thought provoking games. As a result I feel like I can focus better, learn easier, etc... Do you think because I can do those things I'm successful at those games or do you think that those games help me be more successful in life (as I whole-heartily believe)?

Again, I don't know that I necessarily say... Man yesterday in hearts I thought about this move, but it wasn't a good one so I chose this other one. I don't really approach life that way, but to me it really does help you in areas such as concentration and focus and things pertaining to those aspects of life. Thanks for your contribution.

Games yes specially chess has a role in life. The way you think of oponents game in advance in real life also you start judging what their next move would be.

Yeah, I learned chess when I was four and I just think it's benefitted me in so many ways that I would never express to people that have never taken a "game" like that very seriously. I don't go into a life situation and say, well what would I do in this situation like I would in chess, but nonetheless I do think it's applicable - especially in areas such as concentration and focus.

That is great that your teachers started you off well. Strategic thinking is something that children will find useful as a learning tool. My husband plays, chess,my children do as well. I do not. Strategy games are not my best.

Yes i do belive that if you train your brain in the ways of logical thinking then you do concentrate a lot more i also like Chess and various games that you have to think before your next move. I think you are right in saying that being succesful at game like these then you could be more succesfull in life itself :p

Well camo, due to the fact that nobody else wanted to respond to my insightful topic (I need more friends on here I suppose) you will be compensated with the best response - not that it wasn't a good one and you don't deserve it - I was just giving other people a chance. LOL

These games are really very helpful in life. I also play chess and the likes. It helped me in business especially in anticipating my opponent's next move or the market's next move like in chess.

Good point. I hadn't thought about it from that perspective. I definitely think that you could employ the strategies you use in many of those games to Real World situations. Nice contribution.
