I want to start writing, but I just get bogged down with everything else. I don't think that I am procrastinating, just need to get myself in the right environment. I work about 35 hours a week and I go to school, I am wife and a mother. It just doesn't seem to ever be time! Please let me know of ways that you have got around "putting it off" to successfully complete at least a chapter or something. Thanks!

I'm in the process of writing two. It's a hard thing to do with my current situation; homeless, no job, etc. So it's slow and painful, but I will get it done. lol The way I get around 'putting it off'? Honestly, the only way to write is to force yourself to. It doesn't matter what the subject matter is, just write, as much as you can, whenever you can. Little poems, tiny short stories, rants, etc. Everything helps put an edge to your writing. Forcing yourself to write allows you to write when YOU want to as opposed to writing just because you have an idea. I've found that the more I force myself to write, the easier it is to put ideas on paper, (Since that's what you're doing anyway.) Goodluck, Drake

I love writing. I keep a notepad with me all of the time. I stop and throw in notes that come to mind. I also people watch and when I see intersting things that catch my attention, I jot them down. A lot depends also on if you want to write fiction or nonfiction. Go to the public library and check out books on the craft of writing. There is a lot to learn. I've found that the more that I know my characters - the easier it is for me to write about them. A lot of time the procrastination comes in because you're not sure of what you want to do. Another thing that I do is when I write a "chapter" it may only be the basic idea the first time. When I write, I count on writing and rewriting at least three times, maybe more in some places. So don't worry if its not perfect the first time you write it.

I would love to write a book. I have two major problems and several minor ones. The first major problem I have is I don't know what I want to write about. I have several things in mind, none of which I am certain anyone would want to read. My second problem is that I am a procrastinator. I put things off so bad that I usually forget to do them at all. I have thought of writing about procrastinating but figure I would never finish it. Someday I will just sit down and start writing about nothing at all and hopefully something will come of it.

Have a notepad handy at all times and get into the habit of jotting down a paragraph or two on any topic that comes to mind at odd moments. This will develop the habit of writing on anything at the drop of a hat. It doesn't matter what you write about: one thinks a thousand thoughts a day, once one gets into the habit of writing them down, the words begin to come easier. Make a plan for your book. J.K.Rowling had already planned out all seven of the Harry Potter books before she had even written the third one! She says she has made a few changes but the bare bones have remained the same! In order to have time, you have to make it! Set aside a small time every day in which you will write. It may be only half an hour every evening and you may get very little done at first.

iAlicia - iAlicia
I am working on my book right now and have been for quite some time now. I am almost finished and I am looking forward to publishing it by the end of this month!!! It's so exciting for me, it's always been a goal and a dream of mine to publish a book. The book is called, iAlicia. It's in journal format... a day by day biography.

Advanced congratulation. Please edit it properly. Try to add some relevant photographs too. Use matty paper for printing that will last long. Glossy looks bright initially. But get damaged soon.

Everytime you think of something worthy of writing, take some time to jot it down. For me, I couldn't sleep if I don't write what's on my mind so sometimes I only have few hours of sleep no matter how tired I am. If you are hard-up with time, do it little by little, not a chapter. It will be finished, sooner or later. Look at the ants.

Take a dictaphone or laptop with a voice recognition (voice to script) kind of software, whenever you are even very tired, you can record your thougts in the laptop. Then rewrite and edit. I feel this practice is good for your pupose.

I am writing novels, and short stories as well as poems. I am a mother of two and a wife, but I do not work. I am physically unable. The best thing that ever happened to me was to join a writing join. The people there motivate me and encourage me. I get two hours away from home to focus on my writing. I don't get a whole lot done here but I think mainly that is because I am in the process of editing a novel and that is boring. I just want it to be finished. The old saying is to just sit your butt in a chair and do it. If you have to get up a couple of hours earlier to write, then that is what you should do. Writing 3 pages a day about anything at all can get you started. Don't put it off like it did. Do what you can to get the ball rolling. While involved with the writers' group I have attended workshops and seminars by published authors. I have read many books on writing. I have learned a lot and my writing has improved tremendously. Get involved in a writing group. That could be your first step.

I used to want to write a book. Then I actually tried it. After writing 3 chapters, I put it away for a little while then went back to reread it. It wasn't nearly as good on paper as it was in my head. So, now I stick with articles and blogs. I'm just not as good as I hoped I was, even though throughout college I was told to make my living writing. I think the sad truth is that most of us really aren't good enough, but we love the dream. Good luck to you.

I understand...I am a wife and mother too...and have a little job. I would tell you just to try and write something everyday....and that helps..even if it is not a lot. I myself have a story that I would like to turn into a book. It is a fantasy...and I just don't seem to have time to work on it...but you just have to put your mind to it..and do it..when you have the free time.

Famous Authors - of all times
I do professional book reviews for a living and that, through the years, has compelled me to create a novel of my own. If it ever gets published will be something to be seen, but I don't really care as long as I enjoy writing it!

Set a date to complete the book by. Make it seem like a challenge that other people doubt. The challenge part will drive you to complete the task.

well as for me writing is really fun but it requires a lot of skill and imagination not to mention that to be a writer you need to come up with somrthing interesting to your audience. that is what i admire with the famous writers of today, they seem to have this huge well of topics, plots and subplots and they seem to have a put something on their works that makes us all fascinated and glued to their story. wish i could be like them but like most people i seem to lack these traits, well i sure enjoy being reading and being a fan.
