What is the most scary thing you have done?

December 15, 2006 11:26pm CST
Mine was doing a Tandem Free-fall Parachute jump from 14,000 feet. I felt queezy on the way down, not realizing it was not the jump, but the Height & lack of oxygen at that height. Second one, was jumping off a 1,000 feet sheer drop cliff in New Zealand. Because the wind was coming straight over the ocean from South America, it was so smooth. It was like going up in an elevator & kept going up to about 3,000 feet gliding back & forth in front of the cliff. I managed to stay up for 35 minutes & my legs & everything else was shaking when I finaly landed.

When I went "tubing" with my friends. "Tubing", by the way,is somewhat similar to white water rafting, only you don't use rubber boats. Instead, what's used are the inflated inner rubber part of tires, on which you lay on top of like a lazy boy position. I still had a mild fever and we had a tad hang-over when we decided to test the rapids of a narrow river, filled with boulders, stretching for a good 2-3 kms. So we hiked up to the starting point and positioned ourselves on the river bank, with one behind the other, putting both of your legs on the side of the person in front of you, with the person right before you pinning your feet to the inflatable tire. Two experienced "tubers",serving as guides, usually accompany any group, positioned as the first and last in any chain link formed. Our chain link consisted of about 6 people including our guides. I had to be put in the middle since I was sharing that inflatable tire with a friend who was made to sit on my lap, stingy 'ol us.^^ While we were letting the rapids carry us downstream (this, by the way, without any safety equipment on you), on one of the more steep curves of the river course, my tire suddenly capsized, breaking the link, the rapids hurling me against the boulders underwater! Good thing I was able to grab hold of one my friend's ankle, who pulled me up. I would have surely drowned since poor old me still doesn't know how to swim. That, will remain the best and worst experience I have done, yet...

It,s always interesting to know what other experiences have been Endured or achieved? After an experience like yours, going for a new job interview is a piece of cake right. I did a couple of White water rafting but not such a risky one as yours.

I wouldn't exactly say piece of cake whenever I have to show up for a job interview, I still get the jitters, but it's managaeable. hehe would have been hard to raft in that river, too damn narrow.^^

Well, I reckon it is best to try a few different Adrenalin rushing activites. It gives you a good experiences, it's fun, you meet a lot of like minded people. When you have run the course of your life, whether it be another 60 years, 40 years, or 10 years, You can either say. Well, I always wanted to do this or that. Much better to say Wow,I tried this,I tried that, what a hell of a ride.

17 Dec 06
Thanks for your kind response. Well you have more courage than me. I did try ski-ing a couple of times but chickened out. Snow boarding is, I think for younger people, cos it takes courage & a lot of knocks & spills to get it right.

lol thats true i got home sooo sore!! lol from alll the falling n having to pick myself PLUS the board up! lol it was so much fun though! and when u fall u dont have to look for ur ski poles. ( whatever they're called lol) u just pick up and go, thats mostly why i chose to snowboard rather than to ski. my cousin was with me and decided to ski me n my sister watched her roll down this hill and both her poles going in the opposite direction! lol it was still so much fun though. i highly recommend any kind of winter sport :-)

I tend to live a very sheltered life, scary things are not for me! I know, sounds sad huh? I really should take more risks, I'm just to scared to do all that kind of stuff. I'd rather stay safe and sound. Especially now that I have a little one, I don't want to go risking my life when I have a son that needs me here.
17 Dec 06
Not at all. If everyone was going about the world have their own adrenaline rush, there would be no one left to pick us up & repair us when it all goes wrong. Like I broke my elbow joint after crashing 300 feet on top of a mountain in New Zealand. Lucky me got a helicopter ride into the Hospital, & had the best of gentle treatment from wonderful hospital staff that maybe were like you, getting their satisfaction in the work that they do. I was certainly grateful for it.

i watched the movie " how to eat fried worms".... it is so gross and i almost puke for so many several times the actor ate worms.... wether its a real worm or not...it was very convincing...
2 Jan 07
What, in London? I know they eat frogs & Snails in France, but Don't think anyone actually eats Fried worms in London. Mind you, as you know they do eat partly developed Duck embryos in the Philippines . Just to think of it, puts me off eggs for a month! Thanks for your response.

ha ha ha reading ur post was the scariest thing. i was kidding. hmmmm let me think!!! ya first time when i swam in the water that was 10 ft deep. then once i had to walk on the parapit wall of a 3 floor building. it may not seem to be really scary compared to urs,nut for me.
17 Dec 06
I admit I would be scared to walk on a parapit wall 3 floors up. Yes if it was the same wall 6 feet high, but 3 floors NO!! See you have more courage than me.

The scariest thing that i've done is when i went inside a small scale mining tunnel. The hole was too small to push yourself in. Plus when you go inside its as if your lungs is almost out of air.
17 Dec 06
For me, thats even worse than bungy jumpin. No way at all, will I be brave enough to do that.

After going through all the responses, I think my experience is just a mole hill among the mountains. My scariest experience was taking a giant viking that swings to and fro. I thought I was going to be tossed out of the 'ship' and the surrounding become disorientated. Taking the "Tower of Terror' and 'Space Mountain' in Orlando theme park were scary too.
17 Dec 06
Everyone is different, but unique. Some people are scared by little things like Spiders. I heard that great Elephants are scared by a little mouse. I would be scared to go on that big ride, like you did, which I have seen, but refused to ride.

when i was younger i jumped off of a quarry it was pretty scary because i had to clear a bunch on trees and rocks thank god i did not get hurt i know people that have gotten hurt by jumping off of the quarry it is dangerous i was young and stupid then though.
17 Dec 06
Hi Chiquita, Thanks for your response. You are still young but hopefully not stupid any more !! As kids we all liked to take risks, . Hey crossing the road is a risk. No one engrained the "You can't" into us, until later as we grew up. Now kids are so protected by the Health & Safety nuts that theres not much fun being a kid any more.

I went down into some caves while on holidays. I was terrified that the ground above would come down on top of me. It was a facinating experience, but having done it once, I would never repeat it.
17 Dec 06
Me too, there is no way at all, that I would go down a small cave. I like my space, & get into a cold sweat in confined spaces. I have been on London's underground trains in the rush hour, They are packed in like Sardines. Luckily it only short distances between stations, But I would get very pnicy if the train stopped for more than a few minutes. Now I avoid them in rush hour traffic.

my scariest experience was .... uumm...!!! I dont remember if I have scared from anything even though I jump off from 12000feet and also went on many roller coaster in LA and florida but I never scared!! It was just exciting for me lol
17 Dec 06
Go on, Admit it, you like to be a bit scared!! It's a thrill which makes your blood pump faster. Much better than not trying anything new because it might hurt or might be dangerous.

In eight grade, i was crazy about this girl in my class, i never spoke to her. So one day at out first school dance, i got up the nerve to ask her to dance... she just looked at me and said "no", then just looked the other way and started talking to her friends! i was angry and heart broke, but it taught me a good lesson about people in general. You have to get know someone first and let them see your good side, before aproaching them personal way. Of course we were just kids, and there was no formal way of doing things, the teachers just left us to our own, which now i think is wrong, because the kids have no idea how to interact socially at that age in a formal setting like a school dance.... i got over it though.
