Are we sugar alcoholics?

I just heard some interesting news on TV, it is becoming more and more clear that sugar is as addictive as nicotine or alcohol. If we eat enough sugar (and probably other fast carbs, I think), within a week we could be sugar alcoholics. Has any of you won the battle against sugar? What about your kids? They also said that many chemichal sweeteners make our brain to believe that we eat sugar so they are not good either. And nobody knows what happens to the sweeteners when they leave our body.

Sugar - Coffee and a jar and bowl of sugar.
I am not a big fan of sugar in any thing. I never use it in coffee and very rarely will I even eat sweets. Our bodies do need sugar and I know when I do need to eat something sweet. It is like I crave it, and if I do not get it I start to shake,if I eat something sweet the feeling will go away.

Yes, we should get fruit sugar, that is a slower carb than the ordinary stuff and more natural, so there is nothing wrong in eating fruits. White sugar makes our blood sugar to go up and then too much insuline makes it go down too low and we feel the gravings. Fruit sugar and other slow carbs keeps the blood sugar more stabile, so we don“t feel so much gravings.

I had heard that. I remember going off of chocolate for awhile. You get used to not having it and don't really miss it. But when you eat it again. you want it all of the time! It just becomes a craving.

I personally can't do without sugar, I can refrain from eating sweet stuff like doughnuts, ice creams and chocolates but I need sugar in my milk/coffee/tea. I wouldn't call myself an addict but at the same time can't do without it for long.
