If someone has commited a crime and I know about it - is it wrong for me to not tell the police?
Ok, here is the whole, or atleast some of the story.
I do know about a crime that has been comitted and also who commited it. I used to be involved with "not so good people" before that´s why i know this.
The things is that I do not know what to do now. Should i give the police my information and take the risk of getting those bad people after me or should i just keep my mouth shut and go on with my life - which by the way is great right now?

Why not put the information on a piece of paper and send it as a lead to the authorities giving as much info as you can without giving away anything that would lead to you. Post it from somewhere different to where you live. That may be enough to help the police deal with it and yet keep you out of it.

You might be considered as an accessory to the crime or an accessory after the fact (found out later) if you don't report them. If I were you, I'd speak to an attorney, tell him the facts, and find out what you should do. Good luck.

Thanx for your reply. If i didn´t know what the "bad guys" are capable of i would report it, but this makes me hesitate!

I just wanted you to protect yourself from possibly being charged with a crime also. So sorry you got mixed up with such a bad crowd. I hope you're far away from them now.

its a hard choice 2 make.
i know on the one hand id want to let the police know but also after having an abusive and controlling (and not so law abiding) ex boyfriend i also have the same fears as you
do what you feel is right for you...
i know we have a moral duty to tell police but when one has been threatened and stuff due to an ex, i also know the fears and worries involved at the thought of those criminals finding out who told the police
the only way to do both is to do an anonymous tip to the police but tell them you wont give your name

Well, I think that if there is any way that the people would know that it was you that told, and they are dangerous people, I would not tell. You have to keep yourself and your kids/family safe. Can you make an anonomous tip? Would you have to give your name?
I know you probably don't want to write the details of all this, but it also depends on what kind of crime this is. Of course if it is murder or something~you should definitely tell someone, somehow. If it's something less serious ~ you might want to just forget about it. Don't get yourself in trouble!

No, it is not murder but at the same time I do think that it is a serious crime, although no man or woman was injured or killed. I do think I will leave it alone though, no use getting more involved in this mess

That's true, don't put yourself in harms way for something they will probably not get into much trouble for anyways. I know how you feel though. You want to do the right thing so bad, yet you have to fear that either you will be taken down with them or they will take you down. Doesn't seem right, does it?
