Try Chikka Messenger from Indiatimes. U can send upto 15 messages in a day. This is from US to India..I'm not sure if its the same within India. You can try it though and see if it helps.

i think yahoo messenger is also not for all the service providers.you can send 2 sms free from a site aasma.com.similarly there is a site sendsmsnow.com.i didn't tried it for international countries.but it worked well in united states.
