Hows this for a real slap in the face! On January 9 Rene Syler is having a bilateral mastectomy and was preparing to do a story on her surgery when CBS told her that instead of doing the story as planned her last day of work would be Dec. 22. I guess that being fired is pretty minor compared to having cancer and fighting for your life, but please! I hope shes handling all this with lots of support from freinds and family. Has this happened to you or anyone you know? I can't believe how cruel and calculating people in business are.

That's harsh. I agree with suing for wrongful termination. It's also descrimination and against the human rights code. What that station has done is morally unjust, and should be dealt with according to state law. I wish this woman luck and hope she gets better and sues the ba$tards!

Thanks for writing. I too hope she gets well. That probably will be her best revenge; other than living long enough to see those who fired her be fired eventually themselves.

Seems like she could sue them for wrongfull termination. My ex husband was fired because of an injury he sustained while on the job. Workmans comp had even paid for surgery and everything. They decided he was too much of a liability.

Thanks for writing. She probably would have a case if she wanted to sue, however she would most likely never be hired again in television- her chosen field. Too bad.
