What is the psychological reason for...?

I'm just curious, those of you who have seen the movie... "The Final Cut" There is a seen where they show Robin Williams as a kid and he is sitting in the bathroom and he picks a scab and then looks into the mirror and eats it. There must be some kind of psychological reasoning behind this. Does anyone know?
