How much money is fair to hand up at home

I run my house when it comes to bills etc. Both my hubby and I earn around the same. He hands me half (or less) of his wages and I then take care of everything, mortgage, insurance, groceries ,bills, house maintanance, car, large house hold goods, insurance, school books etc.. He does take care of presents for his family and his clothes. He buys the odd few groceries and if we go out he pays most of it. Do you think this is a fair arrangement. What is fair?

Hi It seems that you have found a very fair way of doing things. We do something very similiar... Out of my bank account I pay all the bills. Olya then takes care of the Supermarket Shopping. After that, if we want to go out, it depends on where we go, what we do, and who pays! Seems to work for us!

We have about the same arrangement and it works well for us, i think you have to feel for yourself, if u feel it´s unfair then it is, and if not then it is ok =)

Have you estimated how much you actually spend on the items you have listed? If they come to more than double what your husband pays to you, then I would discuss the matter of a raise with him. If your bills etc come to less than double the amount, then keep quiet about it. I am lucky that I never had this problem. When I was working, both our salaries were paid into a joint account and everything was provided for from the account regardless of who owed the money. Now that I no longer work outside the home, he earns the money and I help myself to whatever I want - and he never questions it.

I think what's fair is what works well for you. I'm a stay at home mom now, but even when I was working my husband and I have always put our money into a joint account. What's mine is his and vice versa.
