Do your coworkers stink?

Several things can make one stink, naturally body odor comes first, but then unwashed socks, clothes and smoking can also make one stink to an extent that one wants to run away from that place. How do you manage such people? Are you able to tolerate them at your working place? Do you tell them directly that they stink?

I have a perfume allergy and sometimes some people wear so much I get an asthma attack. I usually asked to be put somewhere else. Sometimes it's not possible, though. I once worked with a guy and I started noticing a smell whenever he came into the cubicle where we both worked. It would be fine when he first arrived, but within an hour, it would start to smell. One day, I noticed he had his shoes off when the smell was bad, but had them on when the smell wasn't bad. I cautiously and politely asked him to keep his shoes on because I noticed the smell when he had them off. He stopped taking them off and there was no problem.

I have a friend that really smells...we call it the bad odor. She is overweight and Im not so sure if she knew that she smells. For the longest time I stayed quiet about that odor and continued to be her friend. One day a not so close friend of ours approached me and told me that" how can I ever last being friends with her and sitting beside her when everybody knows that she smells. So what I did, I opened it up to one of our friends and we had an open forum and we gave her a suggestion and advice to help her improve and so that she wont smell that bad anymore.

For sure, we always know some of our friends or coworkers stink and it is an embarrassing situation really, as we cannot tell that they stink directly in their face. Every coin has two sides and this may well be the case here too ;), wonder how many are thinking and cannot tell directly to us that we stink ;)
