were we born to work?

it's not that i don't like my job. on the contrary, i quite like doing what i am doing - am lucky to have found some wonderful colleagues and have been really fortunate for running into a rare species - a nice boss. it's been over 2 years since i was here, and have no immediate reasons or plans to quit or change jobs. but that doesn't stop me from thinking that one thing which i have always thought about - were we born to work? Every morning, more than a billion people leave their homes to make a journey very few are very fond of - a 5 minute to 2 hours travel by cars, buses, trams, trains, scooters or bikes to their workplaces. Was this what nature's plans was? To chain us like that. We spend almost 70% of our active day-lives in our workplaces. Whether we are enjoying it or not is another matter - isn't the idea itself ridiculous? Shouldn't we be doing far many more things, some definitely more interesting, maybe a few even more mundane, but definitely a lot more diverse....think about it.

hi,its become like that due to the so called development......initial days[stone age ..]people used to eat from nature whatever they come across whr\en they hungry,no work no tension for future........later barter system came, exchange your goods for getting wanted goods......to some extent happy.......now we created money and running after money....see where will end up ...

money is indeed the culprit, but i think if we had a real wish we could have worked around it..just that we seem to have resigned ourselves to this..or in fact begun believing that the current model is the ideal one.

you have a good point there bro...and your right about the "we where born to work issue"coz even during the prehistoric age man work for food(they hunt for a living)though not as complicated as our jobs now ...but yeah we where born to work!and yeah the one who created us and the universe even works 24/7 without rest for us....so its really shamefull for us not to be working to help ourselves!

that's the sad part dude!!we all strive to be better than others, to prove ourselves to others and in all the commotion we forget that we dont have eternity.life is short and instead of running headstraight it is essential to stop sometimes to think what are we running for??

No we were not born to work. Work is something humans found to do to make effective use of time. GOD have made human minds active and they can not sit doing nothing forever. Somehow during this work became a big part of life and everything in life surrounded work. Work still today also should be a minor part of anyones life. But we all know its not a fact. For me though it is a fact. I work from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm and that is 8 hours (1/3 day). Major part of day (2/3) is spent with family and relatives. I feel that should be for all of them.

I 'm attracted by your post, for I always have the same feeling, especially when I feel tired in my job. No doubt, hard work can bring money to us, but it depends. For young people, you are new comers of the society, you should struggle for your future, not only money itself, but job and life experience, human relationship and so on. In this case, you are born to work. However, when you grow up till mid age and old age, you will learn what you should give up and enjoy. Now I begin to realize that life itself is not a torture but full of joy. we should learn how to relax ourselves, and enjoy life. Nothing is so serious but joy itself. in fact, we were born to enjoy ourselves. DO you think so?

One, our bodies weren't designed for repetitive motion. So, the notion of most factory-type labor is bad for us. It wears the body out prematurely. Second of all, our ancestors labored just enough to take care of their needs, and in most of the warmer months were able to frolic and play and spend quality time with family and nature. Our greed-based society has made us perpetual slaves to the dollar, that right along with our own selfish wants--the wanting of every gadget and gizmo that comes along forces us to work even harder for it.

Sure, it would be nice to not have to worry about it, but where would that leave the economy. Even in times of the caveman they had "jobs." The men had their job to do while the women did theirs. Just be thankful that you have a job you like.

so we haven't really much progress from the cave times then?!

I think life is given to us to fulfil the task of living and doing work and also live with different relations.

I think we were born to work. But I would like to make note of something that I find interesting. If all the wealth of the world were distributed evenly, we would all live a moderate lifestyle, and no one would be poor. Everyones needs would be met. Futhermore, we already have the resources to feed every person on the planet and create machines that will farm for us.

Yeah its a good point u made. I think people need to get some other activites. People r like robots now a days and everything is so mechanical. But v humans should be blamed for it. Humans made technologies and that lead to comfort. To get comfort v need money. so its all inter connected. Well if u r too pressurised about yr work then u have to find some time to get relaxed. Plan some vacation or to spend some time with the dear ones helps. Dont het too mechanised and try to get into interesting things. Remember "life is like an ice cream enjoy it before it melts" Cheers, Tutul

i think we are born to work, we are born to love, we are born to be loved, we are born to praise God, we are born for many reasons not just for work. So if u find the reason why u are born in this world then that would be great for you.

GOD HAVE CREATED US AND NOW ITS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SUPPORT OURSELVES.HUMAN BRAIN IS VERY DIFFERENT.ITS A MACHINE.ONE CAN'T STOP WORKING AND BE HAPPY IN SITTING AND GOSSIPPING.U WILL FEEL HAPPY IN DOING SO FOR SOM TIME.AND ITS TEMPORARY FOR SURE.WORKING MAKES US BUSY,FOCUSSES OR MIND ON GUD THINGS..IT HAS BEEN SAID "IF U DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO,YOU ARE PRONE TO BAD HABBITS"...SO WE SHUD WORK AND ENJOY LIFE WITHOUT WORRYING WETHER ITS TEDIOUS OR NOT..

i think that we are not born to work because working is an activities for use. we must enjoy doing our work, some how the company must have provide on leave days for you so you must make the best of it.. if you didin't working, what else do you do for your whole life??? :)
