Can you work on an H4 Visa?

I have recently got married to an H1B visa holder in the US. I am currently holding an H4 visa. I have been told that I cannot work on this visa. How can I get a work permit in the US?

Hi, you cannot work legally on a H4 Visa. You can apply for a H1 Visa when the quotas open in April next year. You can either apply for jobs directly and find an employer who will sponsor your work permit or you can go through a consultant who can do it for you.
