If your parent or grandparent got dementia/alzheimers, and didnt remember you or your family, would you still visit them on a regular basis? Are you in this situation~? I work in a care home and there is an alarming amount of elderly there who do not get visited by family, what do you think?

I take care of the elderly in their home and even when they are still at home I see a lot of this. I realize it is very difficult for families but even if they do not remember who you are you can still bring some joy into their lives by visiting. It is so sad to hear, "well, she doesn't know who I am anyway" as if this is a reason to leave a loved one languishing alone day after day. If it were my father? Well, he lives a 1000 miles away. I would move back in a minute if my living there would keep him home instead of a nursing home. I have seen too much in those places to ever feel comfortable about him having to go to one when I can do something to avoid it.

I know what you mean. Myself after working in a nursing home I would never be happy with my grandparent or parent in one. It is unbelievable some of the stuff that goes on there!!

Yes, I would. I even visit with people who are not in my family. I have worked in nursing homes, and my husband does as well. I know about the loneliness and lack of visitors, and the constant repetition of the same conversations and questions. Thanks for posting.
