Do you celebrate 3 Kings Day on January 6?

We celebrate 3 Kings Day in Puerto Rico on January 6. It's a beautiful tradition where children take a shoe box, fill it with grass and place it under the bed on the night of January 5. Legend has it the 3 Wise Men come in the night on their camels and the camels eat the grass and in return they leave gifts. I think it's a beautiful tradition and I don't want to lose it. Even though I live in New York and they don't celebrate it, when I have children I want to continue my tradition because it's part of my culture. I have heard that Sweden celebrates this Holiday also. Do you celebrate this? Do yo know which countries celebrate this holiday?

YES!!! We keep this tradition even though we live in the US. My kids just love it. We do put the grass and water under the Christmas tree that we keep up until then. My kids are counting down the days. One thing I want to add is that we tell the kids that the grass and water is for the camels since they come from so far away and get hungry and thirsty and also the kids only get three presents each because that is how many presents baby Jesus received from them. Thanks for sharing this topic, boricua!

That is a wonderful tradition, This may be an ignorant question but what are the twelve days of Christmas? and why do they end in January?

Thanks for sharing that lovely tradition. Of course you should continue it. If they are in school perhaps there would be a sharing day where you could talk about different Christmas customs. I live near a Swedish community, but I have not heard of them celebrating 3 Kings Day. They do a St. Lucia day around Dec. 12. I always have left my decorations up until January 6, because that is the twelfth day of Christmas.

You're welcome, thanks for the advice. I am glad to hear someone leaves their Chirstmas decorations past Christmas. Some people don't realize the imprtance of the 12 days of Christmas.
