Movies with subtitles can make a lot of difference to the understanding of movie. Specially some times you are not able to pickup the accent of the hero or heroine so it is better if subtitles are there.

If the movie is in my mother tongue, I prefer to watch it without subtitles. But in other languages, even if I have good proficiency in those languages, subtitles really help. However, we miss a lot of subtle nuances if we watch a movie with subtitles.

depending on the movie. I like subtitles when watching foreign films because i like the native tongue of that culture.

If the movie is in a different language, I always prefer subtitles to dubbing. However, I sometimes watch movies in my native language with the subtitles on to study the dialogue.

yes, subtitles really help to understand more the conversation of the characters but sometimes some subtitles are not appropriate that makes it funny. The translator didn't understand well the dialogue. Well, this is the case to some pirated DVDs.

I only use them when it's in another language but if I hd trouble understanding the actors at all I would definatly use them then too.

I agree sometimes the subtitle is good to have espically when others are talking or you don't want the tv up to loud
