Hello, I have two wonderful littel boys. But they were very big as babies, (and one is still a baby and they are both still big) I have a two year old and an almost 4 month old. My 2 year old was the biggest at 10 pounds 14 ounces (21 inches long) , and my four month old we decided to induce, he came out a week early at 9 pounds even (22 inces long)with my oldest, i gained almost 50 pounds, i worked out every other day, ate well, and worked as a meat stocker at walmart, my second one i gained about 40 pounds, (though i lost 10 w/in the first trimester) exersized maybe once a week and ate better than i did the first time. I was big as a baby (9 pounds or so) but my hubby was small (5 pounds) i'm not a big person, neither is he.. he's about 5 foot four and i'm 5 foot six, but our kids are growing quickly still. Both boys are in the 90th percentile. Does anyone know why my babies are so big? my Gynocologist said, "some women just have big babies".. but there has to be a reason for this right?

I'm not aware of any reasons for big babies. My doctor just said I was built for it. I certainly wasn't big. Most people would consider me small, but I guess I have a suitable pelvis. I was about usual birthweight but my husband was only 5 lbs. I had five sons. My first and smallest was 10 lbs 8 ozs and my fifth and largest was 13 lbs. I had no problems with any of them and no stitches. I went back to my previous weight quite soon after each birth. They were all normal and healthy though always tall for their age. My youngest is now nearly 31. All are over six foot tall with the tallest at 6 ft 7 ins. They are all extremely healthy.

Don't worry. If you do, you are probably built for it. My doctor didn't worry because he said I had less trouble with 12 - 13 pounders than most people have with 5 - 6 pounders. Thanks for the best response!

The usual medical thing they look for with big babies is gestational diabetes, but I had big babies, and did not have gestational diabetes. Babies born to moms with that problem usually are less well developed in muscle tone and lungs, more like a preemie, all the while being overly large. I think we just get good nutrition, and great prenatal care. My first one was 23 pounds at 3 months. Your babies were tall. If your doc is not concerned you should not be either.
