How many languages do you speak?

December 27, 2006 1:27pm CST
I speak 3 languages fluently, one of them is my mother tongue, one I learned because my town is a border town and the last one I learned when I relocated 15 years ago. I've got an A-level from another language, good old Russian, I can understand just about all of it and can speak it if I think hard enough, though I would'nt call it fluent. Dear husband and I think to relocate again so I am learning another language to get by there. And what about you? Do you think that anyone can learn let's say 7 languages fluently?

Ahh...Russian - I can read, write and understand, but my vocabulary is very limited and I have a very difficult time recalling words to reply. I speak English, of course, because it is MY native tongue. I speak German although not nearly as fluent as before when I was using it regularly. I also speak Spanish, although same situation as above. So I guess I speak a total of 4 languages, all of which could be fluent if I used them more regularly.

I'm Italian but I live in Portugal now. I speak French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and I studied German for a few years. I love languages. In my country I worked as translator and interpreter. At the moment I speak three different languages almost every day (Portuguese, because I live in Portugal, English, because where I live there are hundreds of English speaking people who live here permanently and Italian, as I have a Portuguese friend who wants to practice this language). I also understand Galego (spoken in Galicia - Spain).

you must try to learn speaking maximum no of languages as this can help you in many ways while visiting the countries in the world.Imyself able to speak three languages fluently. they are gujarati, hindi and english.Out of this, one is my mother tongue. The other two languages which i know, i am not able to speak that fluently.they are sanskrit and spanish. Now, i am 57 years old and hence perhaps not getting many opportunities to learn more languages.
