Women in India, had a respectable place in the family and the society during pre-vedic and vedic age. Sucheta Kriplani states, "That in Rig-vedic Age, the women of India enjoyed an exceptionally high status. At that time women were not only their husband's life long partner and companion in weal and woe, but the mistress of ther household and real partner in all their activities, including religious sacrifices. Women's entry into theri husbands house was regarded as an auspicious event bringing belssings to the entire household.
