Gaining friends on myLot

Okay, how do you all get friends on myLot? Do you just click on random people's ID's and ask them to be your friend? Or do you really know these people? I only have one friend so far and she initiated it. I guess I'm a bit shy and hate to ask people to be my friend! lol! Maybe I should check out the interests and request people to be my friends who have my same interests? Would that be appropriate?

I agree with you completely - you should start with the interests. Add your own interests and see who might have started discussions in those interests, and then you can find others with similar interests. I think that's the best way to do it.

I agree also that interests are a great place to start. If you are interested in the same things, then you will have more to talk about with those people. :)

PLEASE! Everyone, I hope you read this message!!! Please stop asking me to be your friend if we have nothing in common.... I don't mean to be mean, but I've been bombarded with request now! lol! Guess that's what I wanted but I now have 20 or more requests every time I log in! I am only approving the ones who share my interests... so if you go to my page and we have nothing in common, please don't send me a request... Thanks!

I think the best way to make friends is through your interests but I have made friends through other discussions as well. It just happened that me and a lot of other people had similar thoughts about other subjects. If you do more replying to peoples topics, the more friends you could possibly make.

I'm new here too and kind of struggling with this friends thing. I got a lot of pending requests and couldn't figure out why they wanted to be friends but did not have the heart to deny them. So I tentatively okayed three of them. One guy posted so many discussions in the first day that I couldn't even find the avatars for the other two people. I put the notify button on "Off" for the guy with all the postings and have decided to be a bit choosier. I'm thinking about waiting awhile and then making requests to people whose discussions have interested me enough to reply three or four times...I think friends are supposed to help each other out by giving replies and keeping each other's discussions going but who wants to reply dozens of times to somebody whose pulling stuff off Wikepedia just to get points. It's like having a conversation with a brick wall.

Hi I just did the same as you!!! People would send me a request, and I would accept it!! Then one day I started to wonder what happens if they get deleted, and so I put a post on mylot about it. Guess what!! The post got deleted! I remember some of the replies though....... Basically if you have "Good Friends" it will help your earnings!!! OK

Thanks for your responses! I think I will check out my interests and start trying to find some friends... So, I don't have to approve someone if they ask me to be their friend? Right?

No Bev, you don't have to approve friends requests although I don't know what happens to them after they hang around for awhile..If you do approve a friend, you can choose to be notified when they start discussions or you can turn that feature off which is what I did when I realized that one of my friends just couldn't stop posting & posting & posting...

Yes, it;s a very interesting phenomenon in China. Many young male foreign friends keep chasing Chinese girls. Maybe because in there mind the girl from the east are very beautiful. On the contrary, more and more young female foreign friends are having a difficult time to choose their Mr. Right. Why don't they have a try and chase our Chinese boys? That's quite unfair, is it because we are not handsome enough?

i have 90 friends, but i only know 2-3 of them a bit. I am used to add some one in my friend list if they are matching my interests. I don't think most of the users here cn attend all of their friends here, honestly speaking no one gets enough time to talk with them. Its just that we cant deny each others friend requests, that keeps building our friend list.

To be frank I first made my friend list with those who are from my country..and many of them I really don't know..here is the fun of making online friends come. Then I started to add whom I think I should add..I donot follow any hard rule that those who shares the same interest as me should be added as my friend..I choose randomly and add them as my friends.I know many of the users personally and due to lack of their activity and also not knowing of their user ID I cannot add them as my friend.

i m agreed with you but what is the harm in knowing a new friend because evre one is new for some one when we meet first, and we dont know everybody since birth so we can give some time to know a new friend.

I've not asked many people to be my friend but I've had plenty request me to be their friend, some I recognised their names from threads so I accepted others, well, there still pending approval on my friends list as I'm not sure who they are and where they've posted to request me as their friend. If I like someone's thread about something and think they have explained it in depth and use proper english (I understand not everyone is english but I mean no annoying text talk...), then I check their other topics too, if there reasonable, debatable topics too, only then will I send them a friend reqwest.
