A friend can be anyone in your family like your mother, father, bro & sis. He/she can also be your classmate, or any person you met in certain places, or even your pet.
A friend is the one whom you can spend time and open up your heartaches. He/she is always there to listen to our whispers and gives us comfort..., the one who loved us as well.
A friend knows your weakness and strength, likes & dislikes..., your whole personality. He/she always dreams for your happiness because of his/her unconditional love.

In my life I knew a lot of people and I have many friends now, but people that I call "real friends" are only a few. I'm 40 now, and I knew my real friends 20/25 years ago and we have remained friends till now.

Thank you all for your great responses on friends, You are all great. A lot you may consider friends bail you out from jail but a true friend is someone siting beside you who will say "we fouled out, big deal, but we had fun..." something like that. lol...

Different people have different perception. One man's meat could be another man's poison. A couple bought a donkey from the market. On the way home,a boy commented, "Very stupid. Why neither of them ride on the donkey?"Upon hearing that, the husband let the wife ride on the donkey. He walked besides them. Later, an old man saw it and commented, "The husband is the head of family. How can the wife ride on the donkey while the husband is on foot?" Hearing this, the wife quickly got down and let the husband ride on the donkey.
Further on the way home, they met an old Lady. She commented, "How can the man ride on the donkey but let the wife walk. He is no gentleman."
The husband thus quickly asked the wife to join him on the donkey. Then, they met a young man. He commented, "Poor donkey, how can you hold up the weight of two persons. They are cruel to you." Hearing that, the husband and wife immediately climbed down from the donkey and carried it on their shoulders.
It seems to be the only choice left. Later, on a narrow bridge, the donkey was frightened and struggled. They lost their balance and fell into the river. You can never have everyone praise you, nor will everyone condemn you. Never in the past, not at present, and never will be in the future.
Thus, do not be too bothered by others words if our conscience is clear..

A friend is someone who will be there for you not only on the good times but the bad times as well.
Someone who will be able to make you smile and be happy when everything seems wrong.
Someone who can brighten up your days on a rainy season.
Someone who will share their shoulders and hankerchief when youre down and teary eyed.
A friend is someone whom you can always count on no matter what.

A true friend is a person who will be there for you no matter what. Through the good times and the bad times. They will not judge you nor will they expect anything from you. A friend gives unconditional love and exceptance of you no matter what you have done. They are somone you can confide in and trust with your life and the lives of your family. We are luck to have 1 true frind in a lifetime and exceptionally lucky to have 2 or more.

Yes, you are right with that. A friend can also be your dad, mom, bros & sis. A friend is the one with open arms and always take an ear ready for our whispers. He's/she's right by our side whatever the weather maybe. But you know what, my dog is also my bestfriend.

I think everyones perception of what a friend is varies. I have 2 different sets of friends, ones I call friend and ones I call best friends or close friends.
The ones I call friends are ones that I talk to sometimes, if I see out I'll speak to them or wave at them. They're more than acquatiances(sp) but aren't as close as my close friends or best friends.
Now my close or best friends are ones that I seem to talk to a lot, I'm there to listen to them when their happy, upset, or just need to talk and vice versa. With my close friends I'm more of me I'm not always putting on a happy face to keep them from seeing the true me, I let them close to me.
Thats my perceptions of friends.

I don't have a real friend, just people to go out with.My best friend is my boyfriend and my mum.I think nowdays to have a real friend is a very difficult thing.Everyone jelaous want to be over you and money are more important for him/her than a friendship.I do really want to have a real friend,I used to,nut understand this was only a school friendship, now when we are in different universities we see each other sometimes for a coffee, but we are like perfect strangers.I'm very sad about this, but that's the way it is.
