How many people have dalmatians out there? I have one and he's as dumb as a rock. I hear that some of them have really bad hearing. Do you have a smart dalmatian? Can he hear? Discuss your dalmatian.

I have "inherited " my sister's dogs because she lost her home and lives in her daughter's apartment. One is a dalmation, somewhere between 10 and 14 years old. I believe Daisy is either deaf or has what the website called unilateral hearing. Limited hearing in one ear. My sister insists she is just bull headed. She was a street dog for a while before my sister adopted her, and was smart enough to live on the streets. Daisy is very territorial and I have to keep her penned and a lock on the pen, toherwise she gets out, and she will nip people. She is very protective as well.

Hmmm.... I haven't heard of very territorial dalmatians, maybe it's something she got from her time on the streets.

We had one and I don't think they are dumb at all. Now if you don't know that they are usually deaf then I can see where you might think they are dumb. But ours picked up things quickly.

They aren't usually deaf. It's just that mostly dalmatians are the breed of dog with poor hearing, but not a ton of them have bad hearing. My dog isn't too dumb, he sits and shakes and does a few other things, just not as obedient when he's out of the backyard.
