Okay help me out here. My boyfriend and I have been having a dis agreement. When the weatherman says there is a 50% chance of rain, what does that mean? I think that it means that you took 100 days exactly like today, it would rain on 50 of them, so you have half a chance of rain. 10% means it will rain on only 10 of those days and porbally won't rain that day. He says that 100% means it will rain all day, 50% means it will rain half the day and 10% means it will rain for an hour or so. Please help us decide who is right!

Well I'm Irish so there's no point in offering my opinion on this one. If the weatherman says the sun is going to shine out of the heaven tomorrow, then we're pretty much guaranteed that it will rain. LOL!

TeeHee. Does it really rain something like 70% of the time in Ireland?

I think I agree more with you, although that is not exactly how I would have put it with the 100 days. I guess that is more clear. 50% chance to me means: well, it could equally go either way today. 10% means: it is not very likely at all to rain today. what you say is more nearly what I understand.

He will not change his view no matter haow many tell him different! I wish that was the way it was. It would be easy to plan out side events! 'Oh, 50% rain, we can just move it to the afternoon, as it will be gone by 1:00!! That would be great!

It is just simply 50% chance that it will rain that day! If the weatherman says 100% chance rain today,it means that it is definite that it'll rain today. If he says 10% chance it'll rain today, then there is a slim chance that it'll rain.

Haii you got it totally wrong . Weather forecast means howz weather is going to behave today . If it says 50 % it means chances of rain on that day is half . 100 % means it will rain surely today. 10% means there is very slight chance of raining today .

That is my take on it. HE thinks if it is 50% it will stop at lunch time. HE thinks if they say 100% it will rain ALL day. that is not the case. If it rains for 1 hour the chance of rain on that day was 100% because it did rain. A 10% chance does not mean it will rain 10% of the hours of that day it means there is a low chance of rain, but it could still rain all day with a 10 % chance of rain, but it is not likely. I know it is confusing though. Take a look at the other responses! =o} + to you!
