That is a great discussion question. Yes, a person, in my mind, can be morally good without religion. Godly, no, because no one is God-like. I think that if you live a true, holy life without religion, you will be rewarded. However, Jesus tells us that all non-believers will not have eternal life with Him, so I have to kinda weigh that in as well. There are many, many people who use the name of the Lord to do evil things, and they will suffer even worse then non-believers.

Good point. I remember a man who said his friend is the most religious person he ever met and at the same time the most wicked he has ever known. It doesn't sound right, does it? but it can be true.

I do believe a person can be religious and yet not be godly. The definition of godly is divine, and while I know many religious people, I don't think of them as divine. We were all born as sinners, and while we may try to be god-like, we are uncapable (or unwilling) of being godly. When I think of godly, I think of people who have truly devoted their entire life to God, such as Mother Teresa. I don't believe a person can be godly without religion. I believe though that a person can fool others into believing he is godly. Most likely, however, he has an ungodly personal agenda.
