Ok, I have been trying all of these different recipes for homemade onion rings, but I can't get them to turn out how I want. They always turn out with a really fluffy crust on them. I dont' want fluffy. I want a thick and crispy ring on the outside. Any ideas on what I can use to get these type of rings?

I tried frying calamari a few times before I perfected the breading. Im planning to cook onion rings using the batter that I used at the calamari. The recipe is: beat eggs, put seasonings in it, dip the rings. Separately, mix a little of flour and cornstarch together. Then dip the onions in the flour mixture then fry. Its very crunchy :) try it, i love the breading so much.

I made onion rings for the first time many years ago. It became just trial and error. I just kept experimenting until I got it the way I wanted it. Basically, I just started with pancake batter and just kept adding milk to it until I got it to be kind of like soup, then I added onion powder to it until it tasted right. I then tried to experiment with the right temperature of the oil and the timing. Good luck.

Wow at least yours turn out a little bit better than mine have. I was looking up a recipe for onion rings so I could make them as a side dish for the burgers I was making. And my other half came home & tried to help me make these onion rings & we followed the recipe.. Each & every little detail. And they ended up turning out terrible. Half of them you could see the onion itself but the batter wouldn't stay on. And the recipe stated for you to do each onion ring one at a time & we just found that to be rather time consuming. To me you should be able to put a few of the battered onions in to the oil at the same time. And not have to wait until one is finished. All I can say is maybe look for some more recipes around the net & try out a few until you get the one that works out well for you. I know that after my first experience with making onion rings I've kind of felt almost like I didn't want to make them ever again. But I think it may have just been the recipe & that I shouldn't feel defeated. But should still just look around until I find one that works well for me when I decide to make them again. If you end up finding a way to make them & they turned out really well.. I'd love it if you could pass the recipe on to me as I'm wanting to try & make them again sometime in the near distant future.

Try cutting onions in rings then soaking them in Sprite or 7up for at least an hour. Put some salt and seasonings in a beated egg. Put the onion rings in this and roll in bread crumbs. Deep fry and enjoy.
