Talking on the phone

I hate to talk on the phone. If I must, I like to be off within 10 minutes tops. How do you feel about it? I will rate each answer. Thank you.

I don't like the phone for this main reason, talking on the phone requires immediate responses, and a lot of time I don't think before it falls out of my mouth. I like the phone for information needed only purposes. I am only chatty on the phone with my sisters who do not have internet, otherwise its e-mail, text message time :)

I have become a definite phone avoider. I used to feel obligated to answer, and to talk forever to my friends, telemarketers, bill collectors, family, surveyors, etc. Somewhere along the line I had a rebellion. The phone is in my house, I can answer it or not as I choose. I do not have to jump and answer when I am eating, or enjoying tv or taking a shower. I would rather e-mail. Thanks for posting this discussion.

I personally like it, i work constantly on the phone so really i need to enjoy it or i would be really bored at work. I think being on the phone is really like talking online as you are speaking to diffrent people with diffrent problems.

Cool, and most guys don't like it. Women do, and most of my posts from women said they didn't. Thanks my friend again for a great response.

In general I hate talking on the phone. I am too easily distracted by crying children, the TV, and a million other things that I need to get done on my "To Do" list! I have a few friends who call me and then don't say anything ... at times they even talk to other people at their house rather than talking to me! This is just obnoxious to me! If you have a reason to call, make it short and sweet and we can both get on with our days. There are only three people that I can say that I truly enjoy talking to on the phone, my mom, my sister and one of my good friends.

I agree that there is not much to talk about unless you have something specific in mind to talk about ahead of time. Usually when I am on the phone with someone there is a moment of silence since we do not know what to say all the time.

I really like talking on the phone at times, but just like starting these discussions, I just cannot think of subjects to keep the conversation going and that makes the person at the other end uncomfortable. It is just like being back in high school and taking a test that you know that you studied for and you know the material inside and out, but when that test is infront of you, your mind just goes blank!

The only time I talk on the phone for long periods of time is when I reconnect with a friend whom I haven't had contact with for a long time. A normal conversation is about 10 minutes. I have spent up to 1 1/2 hours on the phone talking to one person. My ear tends to go numb, but the conversation rarely does.

Well, i'm not trying to be expeditive but i don't like to go on and on with meaningful discussions over the phone. However, i do spend a little bit more time (10+ minutes in some cases) with some of my good friends with whom i haven't had the chance to talk lately.

i hate talking on the phone also. I am just not a people person, so I will do everything in my power to email people or text message, anything to not talk to a person. I actually look forward to those automated things on certain things so i can get the info i want without talking to a live person. I blame this for waorking customer service for 2 years for a health insurance company, i mean when you have a phone stuck to ur head for 8 hours a day (sometimes more if there was overtime) for 2 years you just don't want to deal with people.

I feel exactly the same way, the worst news that I have ever received in my life was via the telephone. Even now when it rings, I get a feeling of dread. Unfortunately, I do need a phone in order to stay connected with family, if not for that I wouldn't have one...SS

If it was me who made the phone call, I like to be off it in less that ten minutes, especially if it is during peak hours, as this is the expensive time. If somebody calls me during peak hours, I don't mind how long I spend on it, as they are paying the cost. I don't mind either way, how I long I spend on it in the evenings, as this is the cheaper rate, unless I am sitting at my computer and I see some emails coming in which I want to reply to.

I never liked "hanging" on a telephone more than a few minutes but I developed a reason to hate it even more. I have a rare vocal cord disease called "Spasmodic Dystonia" which basically made it almost impossible to talk on the phone and be understood. It got so bad at one point that I actually had nightmares where I went to pick up a telephone and the cord turned into a snake that started wrapping around my throat. The disease is now under control and I can talk on the phone fine but I still do not like to stay on more than absolutely necessary. One disease I don't think I'll ever contract is "Telephonitous" which unfortunately, some of my friends have.

Wow, that's terrible. Sorry to hear it. Well at least you have an excuse to not talk to people. Sad but true. I'm glad it is under control. Thanks again for responding to another post of mine. + as always.

My time is very important to me. I work full time, have 2 of my 4 children still at home (highschool jr and sr) and have a husband. Needless to say, time is precious. Nothing makes me madder than someone to call just to chit chat about NOTHING!!! I don't mind a minute or two, but they want to go on forever. And my absolute most hated is when someone I hardly know calls me wanting medical advice! First, I am a nurse, not a doctor. Second, I don't want the liability if something goes wrong! Yeah, talking on the phone is low on my priority list. That is time I could be on myLot afterall!! Ha!

I too hate talking on the phone and I try to get off after about 15 minutes. I do not like holding the phone up for long periods of time plus I usually do not have a lot to talk about. Some of my family and friends can talk for hours and hours. Plus the only phone that I use now is my cell phone so I have to watch my minutes.

our phone - we use it however we wish we did not. necessary in this day and age
I too prefer the phone not. I really only have it since my parents are nearing 80 and I have a 1-800 number that they can use anytime they need me or are just lonely. We live 2 hours apart. I also have to use it for work these days with everyone taking turn being sick or something else. Scheduling is constantly changing. Also am on dial up so need that phone line. Email is the best way to get to me and Instant Messenger is the other way to go ahold of me. Even my boss knows to email me now!! hahaha

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I don't mind talking to my parents and hubbys parents on the phone. They are not into the email too much. I hate trying to talk to someone when they are distracted by other things and you don't know whether they are talking to you or someone else. It drives me crazy. I would just as soon not talk at all. But overall I like to keep them fairly short.
