Is film going to die because of digital cameras?

I forget which company it is (maybe I've been hearing this from a bunch of companies) but I think that many important ones are considering not making film anymore. It's apparently not profitable. Any thoughts?

I don't think it will die out. I still enjoy working in the dark room and using my film camera. I do however preffer digital and at the moment i can't really afford to do a lot of film work. I think people like to get back to basics and see a print appear from a blank sheet of paper.

I expect there to be some major debating about this when companies start seriously looking to cutting their film market entirely.

I imagine about a hundred years ago, people were having this same debate over film vs. tins (although it most likely wasn't on myLot!) Each had their advantages and disadvantages. Each had its people fighting for it. But, technology eventually won out and people grew very familiar and fond of it. So, one day with digital. It'll grow on us. Good discussion.

Digital may replace film as the main method of capturing photos. However, film will still be around. It may take a backseat especially after the proliferation of so digital technology but it will not entirely be obsolete.

Most likely. A lot more people are using digital cameras for the convenience. Here in the Philippines a lot of people are even using their cellphones with camera more than cameras. The price for a phone and a camera are quite close, so why not have everything in one place? Those printing machines that print from digital cams, cellphones, memory cards, bluetooth and infrared are everywhere too. I personally don't even print out pictures anymore, I just email them and view them on my computer.
